With the MB i was wondering if anyones wrists got cut while typing?

Heh, sorry to be immature, but I laughed at the title :D

Anyway, no, the edges arnt that sharp, and you ushually dont even make that much contact with them. Don't worry, a Macbook will not make you go emo. ;)

I have had an iBook and a MacBook Pro and never had my wrist cut while typing on them. It hasn't even crossed my mind when typing.

I can't say that I've ever managed to slit my wrists on my MacBook in the six months or so I've had it, nor have I ever felt my well being to be particularly at risk when using it.

ok and u do know i don't mean literally cutting your wrists just getting them all red and irratated

maybe thats whai they made a black version

to tap into the emo market

lmao good thing im not paying exttra for the emo MB

Yes, the front right edge of the Macbook case is very sharp. Not cutting sharp, but definitely leaving red marks on your wrists sharp.

I used some VERY fine wet-and-dry sand paper, wet with water, to smooth off the edge. It felt much more comfortable after doing this.

The MacBook is generally a very nicely designed, engineered and manufactured device, but this very sharp front edge on the case is a natsy little flaw.

ok so i guess i might do that, theres not much of a chance of actually doing anything bad to the actualy notbook right?

btw quoted the emo laptop post

This is the most silly thing I ever read. Do you really think if people were cutting their wrists on a MBP that Apple wouldn't be pulled up on it? I mean people made class action suits for discolouration.

I've used the iBook and the MacBook Pro too, both case designs differ to the MacBook and don't have the same flaw.

Not the MBP just the MacBook, maybe you find it silly, but I know what the OP is talking about and at there are at least 4people on these forums who have posted about it. While it may not worry Apple they should hopefully recognise the flaw and not repeat it in future.

I've been typing on my MacBook all day and not once have my wrist rested on the lower part of the case for more than a couple of seconds. Seriously, I must be missing a major plot point here... I'm trying to move my wrist down upon the "cutting edge" of the case and doing so requires a very awkward and unnatural position. But I have an adjustable height table and chair, and at the most natural and comfortable table/chair heights my elbows end up being slightly higher than my wrists...

Maybe you folks aren't er, high enough. ;)

Yes.

OP???

sry i just dont know some of this

bad user ergonomics

Your wrists should never touch the Macbook. If you are typing with your wrists lying on the computer or anything else, then you will get bat wrist problems, repetitive strain injury, nerve problems, back strain, etc. You should probably leave the edge sharp to remind yourself of this.

Prevalent wrist "resting" is also probably what is behind the Macbooks' front-end case cracking. The case is designed to hold the computer in, not the user up.

And yes, as someone who has had a hell of a worker's comp claim, I know what I'm talkin bout. Do not lay your hands down, except to rest while not typing.

lol ok thanks... btw even if it does hurt my wrists ill just deal with it and wear long sleeves all the time lol

Or by learning correct keyboard posture. When you type, your wrists should not be resting on the edge of the notebook, this is bad for your hands, and will slow you down. Instead, keep your wrists above the trackpad, it will help you avoid getting cut.
That being said, the macbook's edge is a little too sharp. It shouldn't be that sharp, and Apple should do something to ease the corners a little.

I had similar issues and changed to MBP 17.

I got the similar response when I made similar post about 9 months ago... about posture.

to be honest, I don't know how some of you use your computer but I been using the way I been using for over 10 years.. and only macbook gave me this issue. Go figure!

Being its a laptop, I like the screen to be front of me and not looking down.. hence my arms rest on the edge. I personally think looking down on your laptop is worse posture than looking directly ahead.. my 2 cents..

Again, its the design.. why would I not experiencing with MBP 17??

Now that I've got a new iMac, I'm using my old PB in the kitchen. My only complaint it that it doesn't do bread well....

While they wont slit your wrist they make typing or even mousing HIGHLY uncomfortable...at least for me and over time give your wrists some marking. The edged can be pretty sharp, this even led me to think the MacBooks were made of some kind of metal. This is one of the major reasons i gave my MB away and opted for the pro

Where did you get this idea?? The original Powerbooks were among the first portables to have the keyboard at the back, and providing wrist-rests was the reason why. Laptops with the keyboard at the front were horrible to use.

While, generally, most people are unlikely to use the wrist rests while typing (though that also depends on how high you sit/stand relative to the MacBook's position), most people wrest their hands on it at other times. If a MacBook can't stand up to this, then Apple needs a good hard kick up its design centre's rear end.

New from Apple -

The EmoBook. Now you can compute and cut your wrists at the same time, saving you time. Featuring the new Core 2 Razor processor.

Coming soon - The EmoPod, featuring a sliding razor blade and 30GB of storage, now you can listen to all your emo music, cry, and cut your wrists, all at the same time! Even comes preloaded with all your favorite emo songs!

Our notebooks only have one design flaw. When you type on it it slits your wrists.

But don't go and think that this is a bad thing...Some people see this as a feature.

If only my lawn were as emo as me.....

Edit: DAMN, poster above me already went for a similar joke...and his was better :(
