there
just wondering if a MacBook or iPad will still function without the use of a iCloud account?
I know the simplest answer would be "just find out" but since we have these forums.....

The reason why i am asking is
since both items can't be upgraded by apple, why do I need the reminders and other annoyances.
dot really are about security updates, which i can t perform anyway
and nothing on the internet stated if this can be done, yet- still searching.
there really has been no improvement over updating an app as well, they seemed to run the same,

thank in advance!

Personally, I would find it much easier to run my Macs with no iCloud than my iPads or iPhones.

My current Mac setup has a minimal iCloud presence. I use iCloud for email and Calendar. My backups, password and login information, photos, and music aren't on iCloud or dependent on Apple subscription services. I rarely use the Mac App Store.

I haven't ever felt tempted to increase my use of iCloud on macOS. However, if Apple's new 2-factor authentication system, which appears to be based on a public-private key architecture, is more secure than current methods, I would add that service.

On the other hand, I'm much more dependent on iCloud on my iOS and iPadOS devices. First, it's a lot harder to escape Apple's workflows and UI/UX decisions on its mobile platforms. Second, mobile apps are constantly being updated by developers (thanks to Facebook's stupid "keep shipping" MarkEdict™ that got end users accustomed to using beta-quality software every day) so no iCloud account means no app updates. Finally. I feel the point of my mobile devices is to have constant access to important information when I'm on the go. That makes me willing to keep them connected to iCloud all the time.

I don’t think you need iCloud, but you do have to log in with an Apple ID.
So they're seperate? I thought they were the same thing, since creating an AppleID automatically creates an iCloud account with 5GB of storage. Is it possible to disable iCloud?
I wouldn't mind creating an AppleID for a hand me down iPhone 7 Plus. I don't need storage space. I just want to play some games on it since some games runs smoother a 5 year old iPhone than a 5 year old android phone.

You can log in on the Mac App Store and log out of iCloud in system preferences.
