do we need internet security or antivirus software?

for MacBook Pro i have Kaspersky internet security. it ll end this week . do I have to renew it?
if it is safe without this software I want to live without it. because I m not sure if it freezes my MacBook Pro 16.

Does your MacBook freeze now, and if yes, what does Activity Monitor show you?
