Do we need to delete cloud music from iOS devices?

I listened to a few songs through 3G on the way home today and it looks like songs listened to from the cloud are actually downloaded to the device automatically. Do these have to be deleted afterwards? For the record, I just listened, I didn't specifically download them.

I think a certain amount of space is dedicated to them, and if you keep doing this eventually the newer songs will take place of the old ones, and the old ones will be deleted and require you to re-download them later. I am not 100% sure on this, but that's what I remember reading around the time iTunes match went into Beta.

I would really like to find confirmation of this somewhere. I want to copy about 15 gigs of music back to my iPhone after matching. If it's only gonna hold a few gigs - or worse, a single gb - then I'm just matching my iTunes and continuing to sync to my phone. I think I'll be able to delete all the sub-256 kpbs files from my phone then sync to replace them with 256kpbs AAC files.

u missunderstood the concept of itunes match. Its not a streaming service. It just lets u download songs that arent on ur device yet from anywhere without the need of synching with ur computer
