Do we pay way too little for a computer we really need?

If people spent their time whining online for working in a better paying profession then they can buy a better computer they really want.

Do you do any actual work with that computer, or did you just buy them to brag it?
People spend too much on computers because they do not know how to define their needs and plan for future use.
My setup isn't as pretty, but I'll never complain about the amount of income it generates. It generates enough to allow me to buy some really nice toys to play with outside. You know, like motorcycles, boats, off road vehicles and stuff like that.

Use them like that when I am coding.... Makes long runs easier to read.
I am guessing he is couter-posting that "do we pay too much" thread by showing how badass iMacs can be and how lucky we all are to bask in their glory. Or something like that...

In regards to what people actually need for computing, most people on this forum would be satisfied with a £99 netbook.
But its not about that. At present my rig is overkill, as all I do is browse and a bit of Portal 2 here and there, but its also future proofed, as I will need every inch of my ACD when I begin a 4 year graphic design course in a few months.
Most people just browse facebook and youtube with some iTunes in the background, but still buy the latest and greatest from Apple just to show off or use them as overpriced fashion accessories.

I don't buy the whole future proofing argument that most people on this forum use to try and justify their purchases for a computer that is well beyond what they need....wanna know why? Because at the next refresh you are going to "Future Proof" again. If you planned to keep your computer for 5 years plus then buying the top of the line when you don't really need it might make just a little bit of sense (even though I doubt you will need it in 5 years if you don't need it now), but none of you keep your computers that long.
It comes down to making this a hobby which is what most of you do...brag about buying the best out when that extra money could be spent elsewhere.
Anyways, it is your money so buy the top of the line when you don't need it. Just remember when you are 65 years old and still working that you could have invested all that extra money and been able to retire long ago.
