Obviously, it was treated as a entry model during the M1 Chip series and again for M2.

Thanks!

Torn between a MBPro 14" M2 or waiting till October for the 13" M3. Obviously Rumors...

Sheepish-Lord

Hmm strong rumors are pointing for a new 13 Pro for October... so that would be interesting if they didn't.
Especially with the leading smaller Dell XPS 13 Plus taking over with it's OLED and performance options.

The difference between a 13" with an upgraded screen and the 14" would be too minimal both in features and in price.

Very strong point for sure... that probably is the best answer for sure.

I'd like Apple to discontinue 13" Pro and introduce a "new" 14" but with regular M3 chip.
I don't need the power of Pro or Max chip, but I want that MiniLED screen and those speakers.
There are even rumors that the new Mac with the ID "15,3" has the screen resolution of the 14" MacBook Pro but has 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, which means it doesn't run Pro or Max chip.

First off, it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY that we'll get M3 in October in anything. Vision Pro is coming out with an M2 early next year. Apple is not going to keep releasing M2 products, let alone high profile ones like the first generation Vision Pro, once M3 is available.

Second off, it sort of depends on what your priorities are. If you want an XDR display, then you should probably just buy a 14-inch MacBook Pro now.

Third off, especially with the 15-inch MacBook Air in the mix (and priced almost entirely parallel to the 13-inch MacBook Pro), there's no guarantee that there will even be another 13-inch MacBook Pro; the M2 model could be the end of the line.

Fourth off, even if it did stick around; as you say, it's a lower-end model and is unlikely to receive higher-end features such as an XDR display.

I'm not doubting you; but I'd love to be pointed in the direction of your "Mac15,3" rumors...

The issue with that is that it’s specifically those components that make the 14 more expensive, not the actual processors.
A 14 inch MBP with just an M2/M3 but with all the features of the pro and max versions would still more than likely cost upwards of $1700.
Not really that much savings to be done.
Anyone who wants a computer like this, you’re much better off finding a used or refurbished M1pro 14.
