Do widgets slow down our devices ?

Ever since I installed a few widgets, my other running apps keep refreshing after switching , it feels like the widgets are using lots of ram and slowing down my device.

Not that I know of.

Realistically widgets would only be running (getting some updated data essentially) whenever you actually access/view them, and not really before or after that, so that shouldn't really affect things much.
