Do you Airpods instantly connect with the iPhone everytime when plugged in?

I have the problem that my Airpods don't always connect with my iPhone 6 and I put them into my ear and I often have to wait to hear the "connected" sound. I also have to often put them out and put them into my ear again until I hear the "connected" sound or I can see the earphone symbol on my iPhone.

Opening the Airpod case next to my iPhone 6 doesn't always trigger the battery overview on my iPhone everytime. There are times when nothing happens or I have to close and open it again.

This is a pretty strange behavior for an Apple product and I don't think that this is normal behavior.

Anybody else experiencing this problem or do your Airpods always connect instantly with your iPhone? Maybe this is just a problem of older iPhone models like the 6 but I can't test mine with the newer iPhone as I don't have one.

The AirPods not triggering the battery overview is common. I have had it happen multiple times on my devices. Sometimes it connects instantly and other times it takes a second attempt or two.

Also, the delay with the connected tone is also common. Sometimes it instantly and other times it takes a second or two.

Also, check to ensure that you're up-to-date on your Airpod OS. (3.7.2).

Yes, I already have the newest firmware. I often don't get any connection with the Airpods when plugged into my ear. I have to put the out and in several times until it works or manually select the Airpods on my iPhone so they start playing.

Makes using them sometimes very annoying...

I'd say this issue is rare for me with my 6S. I'm often receiving calls without the Airpods in ears, but whilst the phone's ringing, I can take the Airpods out of their case, slip them in my ears & have the sound quickly auto-transfer to them.

The bigger (& more often) wait is getting that battery status popup on the phone when flipping open the case. This normally happens when I haven't used the Airpods for a while. But after I get the first popup, subsequent popups happen quickly. But the subsequent popups aren't what I'm interested in - I want that first popup to happen quicker as the whole purpose is to quickly check the battery status.

I probably average ~6 seconds for the popup.

Happens to me a lot. I notice it most when I want to make a call or if I put one in while on a call. Often times the phone will show that I have to option to go from handset to AirPods but no sound an be heard. If I go back to handset or speaker, all is well.

Yes, it happened to me as well, just 2 days used airpod, still confused with the connection. Sometimes I need to open control center to click the airpod in order to use it.

For battery, someone suggest me to use battery widget, it worked smoothly, better than await battery information from control center or pop up menu

I know this is an older thread, but I'm hoping there's some new information available now. Prior to buying my AirPods, I used a Jabra Storm headset for phone calls. One feature I really liked is my phone would start ringing and I could put the Jabra Storm in my ear and turn it on. It would immediately connect to my phone and transfer the call to the headset, answering the call. No muss, no fuss.

I was hoping to get the same kind of connectivity with the AirPods, but they have been disappointing in that regard. Now, when I am on a call (no time to connect while it's still ringing), I have to ask the other party to hold on, pull the phone away from my head and tap a few times then wait for the AirPods to connect. Certainly not the elegant solution I was hoping for.

Even better than the Jabra Storm, my Bose QC35 headphones connect to my Mac and my iPhone simultaneously. If I'm watching a video on my Mac and a phone call comes in, the audio automatically pauses so I can answer the phone. When I hang up, the audio is restored to the Mac. While I don't expect this from the AirPods, I would at least like them to automatically connect to the iPhone when I pull an AirPod out of the case and put it in my ear.

Any ideas on how to make this work better with the AirPods?
