You're just an ordinary citizen and let's say you happen to witness some event that made a huge news. So, you go on nationwide morning TV shows for interviews. Do you get paid for that? If yes, do you know how much usually?

Depends. Most of that money would be made from book deals. Depends on the event and the show, usually your expenses will be paid for and then some small stipend. The way to make money from speaking is to become a speaker, for example, Fareed Zakaria (I dislike Wikipedia, but it seemed good for this use) charges around $75,000-$85,000 per engagement.

I think you have to be in the guild to get paid, and usually it is $600 per appearance.
