With a lot of frustrations and complaints coming from users, may we know if you guys find your Macbook Pro/Air or iMac/Mac Pro usable with this option turned on? Care to share your observations?

I have no issues with transparancy when running my 2014" 13" rMBP at 1680x1050, however I turn it off because it annoys me, no other reason.

Good to hear that from you :)
On the other hand, i turn off mine because of the UI lag/choppiness.

I'm thinking now they did this for the marketing shots of the desktop which are static on the website, yes they look nice. I can think of no other good reason because there is no genuine useful reason for a GUI to have transparency as implemented.

Imagine books where print don transparent sheets. It's only impedes readability.

Glad to see you can turn it off. It should be default off or at least an opening screen giving a clear option on the first boot of YOSX.

Is this the case?

I just can't see the point of it on OS X except as unnecessary eye candy. I "get it" on iOS with the layers etc, but it doesn't really achieve the same on OS X

Yosemite without translucenly makes no sense. The hole UI is designed around depth perception and dynamism that enabled provided by translucency. With translucency off, Yosemite is indeed ugly and quite pointless.

Mavericks didn't need transparency and the UI hasn't changed that much....

Translucency at Apple's 'Design' page: now you see it, now you don't

Apple's main screenshot of translucency was removed from the design page on the day that Yosemite was released.

At https://web.archive.org/web/20140909232540/http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/design/ there's a shot of Safari content affecting Messages.

https://web.archive.org/web/20141016183947/http://www.apple.com/osx/design/ from the day of release has inexplicably disappeared from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

Currently at http://www.apple.com/osx/design/ there's a horizontal line where previously there was the shot of translucency.

Looking at the remaining shots: does Apple now avoid demonstrating translucency (is transparency reduced, for accessibility, in some of those shots)?

I am indifferent to it. It doesn't irritate me, but I am not seeing or feeling what the big deal is either.

I have a cMBP and have used transparency since PB1. I tried clicking reduce transparency and I feel the opposite: I think it looks butt ugly turned off. To each their own.

when apple release their 3d os all of this transparency will become clear... or you could just drop aload of acid.

Do you experience ui lag with transparency turned on? my rmbp will get laggy after a few days without restart. A restart or simply log out and log back in improves the overall performance but i wonder if this is a software issue. really annoying.

rMBP mid 2014, 13 inches, 16g, 256 ssd
