I’ve got a 14” but if I could afford it, I would strongly consider a 16”. Now that I no longer need to carry it around for hours a day, the size and weight are less important. The 14" MacBook Pro is a big step up in size and weight from a 2012 11" MacBook Air, but I still want more screen for AutoCAD.

I needed to replace my original MBA 3 or 4 years ago, as my battery life was down to 90 minutes (2nd battery), the OS was so old I couldn't bank on it (or even access Wikipedia, WTF??) and the trackpad would only register a click in the lower RH side; She was Worn Out!
This stupid forum kept "promising" a new 15" MBA, which I kept waiting for, for maybe three years. I finally gave up and bought the lowest-spec MBP, 16", it fit on my lap even better than my original MBA but the "column" feet dug into my legs more than my original MBA, which was a huge disappointment.
Three years later, I've forgotten the excess cost, and still love the 16", bright and HDR screen, and the excellent speakers; She is Heavy, no doubt.
When my 2021 MBP can no longer be upgraded, there will be a whole new slew of options at that time, and a 70% chance that I'll be dead, so I'll worry about that at that time. :D

14" for the past 3 years, with a very brief try out of a 16" last year - loved the screen but eventually got fed up with the size. Love the crispness of the 14" screen and am currently trying not to be tempted by any MacBook Airs. I originally had a MBP 14" M1 Pro then sidegraded (? :D) to a 16" MBP last year for a while, then back to an M3 (non-pro) MBP 14" when Best Buy had them for $1300 last year with 16GB RAM and 1TB ssd. Phenomenal battery life, and my (ancient) games run smoother on it, while the computer stays cooler and lasts longer. I live in a mostly hot region and I like to work in my back yard a lot, so I really do need at least one fan. Studying Computer Science, was a medical translator previously, not had any problems with the non-pro chip so far.

I have the 14” model.

My viewpoint is that when I am working at home, the computer is docked to a Studio Dispaly with an external mouse and keyboard in clamshell mode tucked away. When I am on the go, I want the most compact package as possible. The additional screen real estate does not seem worth the extra bulk on the occasions that I am traveling.

Further, despite a few initial takes the 14 inch chassis performs well enough even with the Max-level chips. Well, it doesn’t have quite as robust cooling as the 16 inch, the impact of the end of the day is minimal.

14" for me. If I need an extra display when out and about, I can either use my iPad via sidecar or bring my 15" portable display which provides both signal and power over a single USB-C cable. The portability and flexibility of use outweighs factors such as screen size and battery life for my usage.

Had the 15" MBA and had hoped the M4 version would offer the nano screen. Went with 14" MBPro with the nano screen. It spends most of the day driving an ASD in clamshell mode and is just the right size for my lap on the comfy chair at home. Can't say enough about how much I'm enjoying the nano screen.

I've owned and love both form factors, currently have the 16" as I was out of town without any external displays for a year and also wanted to be rid of my 14" while the trade-in value was still good, which had the unfixable and incredibly annoying speaker popping issue..

I feel like I'm going to have an awfully hard time making this decision again next year, when they both get lighter with OLED.

I tried the M4 Pro Base Macbook Pro 14" before but screen was a bit too tiny for my liking even with Display shrunk to show more content. Ended up doing custom M4 Max 16" Nano 16/40 64/1TB. Beautifully right, I don't even use my 27" monitor [PG279Q, gaming 1440p 165Hz] often haha as a result. It was just right and the colors were definitely better.

Some other reasons
14" fan is very high pitched under moderate workload. => 16" deeper and quieter even with full load.

Have had both, my dislike of the 16 inch isn't that it's too heavy, it's that it's like 25% thicker than the 14 inch, typing on it is uncomfortable as it digs into the wrists. My other huge dislike is that the keyboard is pushed far too inwards because of the comically sized trackpad. If they pull it out to the same distance where the 14 inch is, I'd like it. Good thing the M6 OLED re-design will supposedly be much thinner.

I have the 14 but I ADORE the 16, it's just that I need more portability than the 16 offers. If I mostly used my laptop at my desk or in more stationary places I would have a 16 again in a heartbeat.

That being said, the 14 is just more portable and I'm always moving around with it so for me the 14 inch is a no-brainer.

The thickness is my main issue with the 16" as well. If the 16" had the same thickness as the 14", I'd have chosen the 16". Loved the footprint that last Intel 2019 16".

I leveled up to the 16". I had the Mid 2014 MBP Retina 13". Big big difference. I have an iPad for a smaller display if needed. I'm enjoying it thus far.
