Please vote and comment why you bought a stock M1 MacBook over a build to order one and if you're planning on getting a new Macbook, iMac, or Mac Mini next year.

I picked up my lovely new Space Grey MBP M1 8GB/256 today so I'm still setting it up and updating MacOS. Part of the reason for going for a stock model was the wait time for a custom config and part of it was knowing that I won't be a true "power" user. I've been reading with interest the comments about 8GB vs 16GB and have always been of the opinion that more must be better. It seems like that may not be the case so much with the whole M1 ecosystem. Only time will tell if I've made the right choice but so far I'm over the moon with my new purchase!

My MBP 16/1T was stock in that it was available to order for next-day in-store pickup. :p

I have no plans to replace it in 2021.

I was on the verge of buying a base model, which was in stock at my local Apple Store.

I decided to order my 512 16 M1 MBP which I now have.

I’m glad I decided to wait.

I am technically literate enough to understand that 8GB of unified memory is sufficient, but that I also need 512GB of storage.

It's a forum phenomena people always say here maxed out are better.
I have stress tested my 8GB MBA and think its enough. Outside this forum no one really checks every 5 minutes how much ram he is using.

Enough reviews to show that the base is enough for most people, including myself. If over time it's not good enough, I can return it (I have until 1/30).

lately i only use the macbook for surfing, so 8GB is enough.

and most of my files are "on-demand" in the cloud, so i don't need more than 256GB.

and i can't support the high RAM upgrade price. it's crazy what apple is asking for it.

I ordered a MacBook Air with 16gb ram and AppleCare. I have a 16” and 13 pro and plan to replace the 16 as soon as apple silicon comes out for it.
