In the before times I went to an authorized repair shop (Simply Mac) for an iPhone intermittent charging issue. They stuck a metal screwdriver in the charging port to clear it of any debris (I had already verified there was none before I took it in). I permanently crossed non-Apple repairs off my list.

Fast forward to the horror that is 2020 and repair appointments are hard to come by, and almost impossible at the Apple Stores around me. I have an iPhone 8 Plus with AppleCare+ that needs the screen replaced and an original SE without AppleCare that needs a new battery. Ignoring Simply Mac, the only appointments I could make are at Best Buy.

Should I be concerned with Best Buy performing these invasive repairs considering they are authorized? If they release the magic smoke I assume I'll be taken care of. I'm more worried about shoddy repairs.

On a side note, I just found out that AppleCare+ can be extended more than two years. Probably old news to everyone here, but good news for me who hangs onto devices for more than two years.

I had a 6S repaired and battery replaced at the local iFixit shop. Will never use a non apple store again. If I had to though, Best Buy might be ok. I think BB is above board. At least they would stand by the repair.

I would trust Best Buy. They're big enough they don't want to risk their image with horrible repairs. There of course could be incompetent repairmen, as will be the case anywhere, but I'd assume their quality standards are acceptable. Apple is the best one though.
