I am thinking of buying a cellular iPad to replace my Wi-Fi only iPad Air 2. We've switched to Cricket which doesn't offer roaming, so part of this upgrade is to get a cellular device that can work overseas when we travel without having to swap SIMs, deal with temporary phone numbers, etc. We typically travel by cruise so buying SIMs for each country is cumbersome, since we're only in each country for a few hours before we're on to the next one.

We are traveling to Bermuda in a few months, and I see that there is an Apple SIM compatible carrier that covers Bermuda - GigSky.

When I am in Bermuda, or really anywhere, can I purchase a cellular plan on my iPad without needing to find a Wi-Fi hotspot? I am not sure if the cellular works for purchasing a plan.

All cellular iPads will will come with WiFi, there is no option to not have WiFi. You would have both.

I prefer the cellular iPad as I love them having a real GPS unit inside of them.

I should have said, do you need an active Wi-Fi connection to purchase a cellular plan.

sosumi answered that question.

Thanks!
