Wondering what the preferred video experience is for the masses

lol just realized one of the poll options is a typo. Should be square/black bars. Can’t figure out how to edit the options.

What's the difference between filling the screen and zooming in? Aren't they the same thing?
Filling the screen means the ratio of the screen is perfect and its just like wide screen. Not zooming in. Zooming in cuts of some of the movie. Something like that,im not too smart about these but yeah theres a difference.

🙄
iphone seems moot. It's an itty bitty screen, just the way the director envisioned their production being viewed.

Depends on what type of video i'm watching

Filmed in real life-Fill Screen

Video Game/Video where captions are apart of video-Black Bars

It depends on the device and the type of content. Are we talking about in general or only on phones? On a large screen TV, I always choose black bars because I want to see everything the director intends and the screen is plenty big enough. On a tablet screen, it depends, if it’s cinematic I’ll choose black bars; if it’s not cinematic I might zoom in to see more. If we’re talking about phones, the screen is so tiny I don’t usually watch any movies/TV on it, but if I do then I’ll always zoom in just so I can see everything that’s going on.

Full screen.
Black bars are bad news for OLED screen burn-in. Unless when the content’s POI is being cut severely.

My preference is whatever the original source material's aspect ratio is. I want to watch things as intended by the makers of the content. Eg. Justice League Snyder's cut. It's in 4:3 aspect ratio, and I watch it as is on my widescreen TV with black bars on the sides. I wouldn't think for a second to stretch/crop the video just to fill the screen.

Some youtube creators have made their video into the wider aspect ratio of modern taller phones, but most are still doing 16:9 since that's the HD standard aspect ratio of most recording devices and displays. Either way, I will watch the video in whatever original aspect ratio it has. No stretch/crop/fill.
