Before anyone comes in here with their panties in a bunch and says "There's already a thread about this, OMGzzZ!!!", this isn't a thread about what you want in the next iPhone or what you want it to look like (but feel free to mention it if you'd like, as I will).

Simply asking, do you see Apple coming out with a new design for the iPhone in 2010? Or do you think they will keep the 3G/3GS design but just upgrade some features and internal hardware, etc.?

I think it is definitely time for an upgrade to the iPhone's look, and I can't see Apple NOT giving the phone a re-design. I'm hoping the phone will be some form of aluminum like the original iPhone, although with the cheap price of the iPhone now, I can see them sticking with plastic.

Many websites have mobile versions of sites optimised for the iPhone screen which I think is pretty optimal. Any smaller and the browsing experience would be poorer, so I don't see a change in screen size. I feel the new model might be slightly slimmer, but that's about it IMO.

Hopefully a matte scratch-proof back or aluminum if possible. The actual design is flawless.

They will definitely have a slight new design. I remember how people were so bummed when the 3GS was unveiled and looked completely the same.

This next iPhone needs to look distinctive to the 3GS and 3G. We might see an aluminum looking iPhone maybe.

I think the design will stay the same.

Apple isn't exactly known for doing exactly what people want.

Why?

We might see an aluminum looking iPhone maybe.

Except that aluminum is not good for signal. The 1st gen was aluminum and the signal was worse than the 3G, even with the plastic black part where the antennas were.

Well, I agree with that but I still voted "no" in the poll.

I think "slight" is the important word there.

Unlike the 3G to 3GS I think we will get a change this time. But I think it will be a smaller change than the change from 2G to 3G was.

Maybe a little thinner (maybe) and perhaps the silver rim will be skinner or something. Or maybe the phone will be 1/4" shorter or something like that.

Just enough that fans like us will be able to tell, but the general population won't.

Yeah but they know they have to start doing what we want, because of competition.

It just has to. This is the iPhone, it's suppose to be the newest thing of the time. If we got the same design used again for a 3rd time, people are going to want a cooler looking phone, (yes, cooler).

Except that aluminum is not good for signal. The 1st gen was aluminum and the signal was worse than the 3G, even with the plastic black part where the antennas were.

All I said is that we would see one look like a aluminum design.

I don't know, I am tending to think they may upgrade the design a little but it stands a good chance they may just upgrade the internals again and leave the exterior alone.

I would want a matte aluminum back with a black shiny logo(the wifi and bluetooth antenna can be hidden beneath the logo) and more squarish design (like zune hd)...also more thinner with flash for camera and more space(like 64gb version) :)

if this happens then it would be awesome!

I think it will be subtle, like possibly the camera having the reflective shine like the new ipod nanos.

Screen SIZE will probably stay the same, but we could get some internal upgrades to allow HD output.

Could they though possibly move the headphone jack? Possibly. Could we see them move the camera's location to the top center? Possibly.

May the bump up the camera to more than 5mp? God I hope, so they can tell VZV to shut up. Could they allow some more background processes? That would be even better.

Side note: Imagine two cameras to allow for a 3Dish style of picture!

I think apple will tweak the phone design but I don't expect any major overhauls.

Sure the design will change. The apple logo and wording on the back will now be in gold color. :D

But seriously .... I think Apple will just improve the screen resolution with a slight chance of increasing it's size.

I cant really see them changing the screen size. that would mean over 100,000 apps would have to be updated to the new screen size.. which would be a pain.. so that wouldnt change at all.. if you just hold your phone. look at it.. what more could u want?? what more could they change? it fits perfectly in your hand..Its just the right thickness. not to light, not to heavy. plenty of power.. what more could you want?

i definatly do not want a square iphone..

this is what i could see them doing.. I could see them making the back completly replaceable. thus adding options of iphones in many different colors and designs..

I definatly do not want the iphone as thin as the ipod touch. the ipod touch is to small and to me it doesnt fit comfortably in my hand.. I really could care less if they do or do not change the design.

Im more into os 4.0 what new features they are going to add to the OS. I think 4.0 is going to be another game changing operating system that apple may just have been setting the foundation for with 3.0.

They'll make it even thinner :) A glowing Apple logo would be cool, like on the MacBooks. Although that wouldn't help the battery.

I'm hoping for an update to the actual OS look/feel.

I guess not. Apple has been known to not change their designs for sometime. I guess this will be the same for the iPhone.

Most definitely. A 3.7" screen would be nice also! 3.5" was huge back in 2007, but now most phones are catching up. 3.5" doesn't seem big to me anymore.

YUP!! it's about time to squeeze some more money  out of us for different cables, docks, accessories etc..... 3 versions in a row with the same form!! NOPE!!

so yes I think they will change the design......

That's the most retarded comment I've heard. I can still use an old iPod cable with my iPhone no problem, as well as the iPhone cable on the old iPod.

Within the last 10 years (maybe more), apple has only had one change in power adapters on their systems.
