I have seen many companies try (emphasis on the word "try") to make a competitive device to an iOS device; yet, so far all have failed.
I am no Apple fan or any company fan or in fact any "thing" fan... however I believe in Apple products (for now) as they offer the very basics:
1. The iPhone can place calls and hang up without giving you trouble; on the BlackBerry I keep hitting keys and what not (even though I have an ambient sensor) and it is impossible to dial extensions as the storm screen just freezes up. This is the upmost basic functionality of a phone, which the iPhone does far better (IMO) than any other smartphone.
Getting back to topic, MSFT released the Zune as a competitor and we all know how that went. Many other products have been released to mock the iPad in countries such as China and all have failed thus far.
There are a rising number in tablets, many from large corps such as HP and Dell. However, I do not believe that they will offer the quick and responsive productivity purposes, for which the iPad is designed for, in their overwhelmed tablets. For example, if Apple did one thing right, it was realizing that a mobile tablet should use a mobile OS and not a desktop one. The upcoming WIN 7 tablets will soon realize why using a mobile OS is better.
Lastly, I feel the only "true" competition to the iPad will be the HPs WebOS tablet as it will, too, use a mobile OS and add additional functions currently not offered by the iPad.
My 2 cents.
