This is all marketing here. It doesn't change the actual product.

I wonder if they'll make it inline with M1 Pro & M1 Max, AirPods Pro & AirPods Max, instead of using the mouthful that is iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I feel like it makes sense with the lineup when you have the iPhone mini, then you simply got the opposite which is max.

iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro, iPhone Max

No because "Pro" is a big marketing thing especially with non tech savvy people. There are people who bought the 13" M2 MacBook Pro because it had Pro in the name....
I have a work issued 2015 MacBook Pro and based on how well it listens to me and does what I tell it to do, there is nothing 'pro' about it. :D

So, you're right. It's all marketing!

I'm not sure about Macs for work but at least with Windows computers they're never good. They put so many apps to manage it. You also have to remember 2015 was 7 years ago... That's a lifetime for a computer.

Wow I feel old as well thinking about 2015 being so long ago...

LOL! That is the youngest Mac in my entire house. But it's not mine. :)

I am typing this on a 2009 MacPro. My home server is a G3 running Tiger Server. And there's several Macs of various years in between.

No, this is just because the 2015 MBP is obstinate. It doesn't like doing what I want it to do. It has to be contrarian. All my other Macs follow commands, but that MBP just pouts and sticks its tongue out.

I’m guessing you can’t get security updates on the 2009 Mac Pro?

See, in marketing you want a simple and snappy name. That’s why I’m pretty sure it’ll be “iPhone 14 Non-Pro-Max Plus, Standard Edition” (punctuation marks included).

Exactly. I have met with people that actually think that only iPhone Pros and iPad Pros would work with the Macbook Pros, because both have Pro on their names. It's working great in pushing people to pay more than what they would normally need.

That's a hard pass man. I'll wait for the iPhone 14 Non-Pro-Max Plus, Ultimate Edition+.

They wont change to just iphone 14 max for the pro because they’re going to be releasing a non-pro version of the 14 with the same screen size as the pro max. Unless apple decides to name it something different then I don’t see that happening for sure…but we will see in a few a weeks! 🙂

You seem to have forgotten about the non-Pro Max model? They have to differentiate between the two. I'd assume with either naming it iPhone 14 Max or iPhone 14 Plus. Pro isn't going anywhere.

Between that and people here pushing against base spec models I wouldn’t be surprised if many people overbuy. If my mom went on here asking what computer she needs the recommendation she would likely get would be a 14” MacBook Pro 😂

I overbuy the iPhone every time I upgrade. But the difference is that I'm know I'm overbuying and I don't care - because it's what I want.

:D

I think the best way to reduce confusion is if Apple would bring back the "Plus" name for the regular 6.7 iPhone 14, while keeping "Pro Max" on the 6.7 pro iPhone.

iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone 14 Pro Max

Now it will be 100% clear for people to understand on which is pro or not.

Then again they also created the confusing "M1 Pro/Max/Ultra" naming scheme so it's possible they might do the rebrand that you suggested.

iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Studio, iPhone Pro, iPhone Max

🤭

Considering we are getting a new 'cheaper' larger iPhone this year, this wouldn't make any sense.

Apple is adding a second new 6.7" iPhone to the lineup for the first time, so it has to offer both devices while giving them different names.

The 'Pro Max' moniker is going nowhere.

The question becomes what will they call this new cheaper larger iPhone? The safe bet is simply 'Max'. Some have said perhaps 'Plus'. I don't think that will happen.

All but certain the 2022 lineup for new iPhones will be...

iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Max
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max

I expect this template for years to come.
