do you think because of the new Google phone we'll see lack of apps from Google?

Reading about their new browser and how they're developing a new phone OS. should we expect not to see anymore google apps on the phone?

I dont suppose so. Google is quite Universal in this regard!

Besides.... the CEO also serves at his pleasure in Apple's Board (not to mention he is sometimes 'excused' when iPhone dev platform is being discussed)

Google wants its software on as many devices as possible so people will you its web services and then $$$$$$ will roll into its coffers...

So to answer your question. No Google will not withhold its software from the fastest growing cellphone platform in the world.

1) Google is making as many phones as Microsoft is (zero). They're making a phone OS.

2) I don't know Google's plans, but they would be extremely stupid to siphon off users from competing platforms. Even Microsoft understands this enough to make Office for Mac. Google has made some nice products, but they're getting into brand new territory here. I saw screenshots of Chrome and from that it didn't really impress me more than any other browser. What magic is it supposed to perform that Safari and Firefox don't? Firefox has become the primary anti-IE on PCs, and Safari is just getting started.

Android was pretty much the same. It looked a little bit like an ugly iPhone OS, and I really haven't heard anything groundbreaking about it. I think a lot of the hype is because it's $400/share Google making it.

I believe Android is open-source. I *know* Chrome is. And they chose to do their things as open-source because they want other apps stealing from them. Google is about running on all possible electronic devices; I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on some cloud-computing refrigerator.

So no, I fully expect any of Google's apps to hit the iPhone...although of course most of Google is really based around their cloud computing, so there aren't many actual apps to be iPhoned.

Their current app is alright, but I was expecting an official gtalk app to come out for the iPhone. I expect they are waiting for 2.1 so PUSH will work before releasing it.

I think the complete lack of apps that we see now speaks volumes, the only app from them is nice but it really could have been much more and the integration with gCal, gTalk, and gmail could have really been a real alternative to MobileMe.

do people not think that maybe google are holding off until the push update comes out? Most, if not all the google apps would rely quite heavily on this. New email alerts for gmail, alerts for calendar, new message alerts for gtalk etc. Maybe not so much for gdocs. An offline version of the docs app would be great, with editing abilities. Also an offline version of picasa would be good.

I haven't heard anything about Google Phone. There is Android, an mobile OS but that is quite different.
