Yes, I know SJ said all Macs will be transitioned to Intel this year, however with the delay of Merom, do you think they will make it for 06? I feel Merom chips or Conroe have to be included in order to top the current G5 line. I don't think it would be a good move to put 32-Bit CD chips in there even if it's two or 4 CD chips. Maybe the delay of Adobe and other 3rd Party pro apps not going UB will push it back as well.

I think moving all of apple's product lines to intel as soon as possible will only help motivate the software makers to switch to universal binaries. This is especially true for the pro users as they rely on specific software.

I think Powermacs will be moving to intel sooner rather that later. And definitely this year.

Don't worry about Merom, they wouldn't be putting that in the high end desktop anyway. The Merom delay is said to be for marketing reasons that shouldn't affect the desktop parts.

Steve Jobs said that they will be transitioning all models over in 2006. That means that all machines will be announced this year even if they don't ship.

If it is announced in November or December this year then people here in Jersey (UK) can expect to see them for 2008...

I think this might end up happening. The PM's being announced very late this year and not shipping till very late Dec or Jan 07.

NOOOO! it looks really nice at present! big = powerful!
It'd be nice if at least the innards were redesigned. More room for internal hard drives, two optical drive slots...without all the liquid cooling hardware it shouldn't be too hard to do, too. I know you can get add-ons, but it'd be fantastic if Apple could figure it out on their own.

Haha, as long as the insides don't look like the Dev units I'll survive. As far as the optical drives go, I really don't see much purpose for it in the grand scheme of things. Sure, it's nice to be able to straight copy a CD or DVD, but it's just as fast to rip and burn now a days.

They'll definately make it for 2006.

Put it this way, the MacBook will almost certianly be announced on April 1st (Apple's birthday), with at least one surprise (perhaps a tablet Mac, a VOIP 'phone, a video iPod or a Mac media center). Vista will probably be delayed even more, so Leopard won't be released at WWDC, only previewed. So, what does that leave for WWDC - 17" MacBook Pro? Or the Mac Pro desktop?

As others have pointed out, the Mac Pro won't get Yonah/Merom. It will either get Presler/Conroe or Woodcrest/Sossaman.

I'm guessing the former and even if Conroe slips to 1Q2007 Apple could ship with Presler because they use the same socket and Presler is already available (I think).

I think that it would be a dumb move for apple to delay releasing products due to Microsoft. Perhaps a good business move to release things around the same time, but one shouldn't delay releasing innovation due to a company that doesn't understand the concept of innovation. It would suit the Apple community more to get upgraded with an OS adding new features to the computers.

As for the Intel PowerMacs. Bring them on!
