Do you think it is a good idea to upgrade my 2019 MacBook Pro 15" base model to Monterrey from Big Sur or should I keep the current operating system?

I know the general rule is that if your software is working fine then you can just keep it. Big Sur is in fact working fine. But it would be nice to upgrade and get the latest features. I was wondering if it was good idea or if I should play it safe and stick with that's working.

Hmm - good question. A few different opinions about this I guess.

If it's working fine, and is still supported by security updates and whatnot, why not stick with it!?

New features are always fun to explore, and can help with productivity and the like, so why not upgrade?

I guess worst case is that you can always roll back to the previous version if you're not happy with it.

Yes only for the security updates Monterrey brings. The rest? That's a user need's choice.

my 16" shipped with Catalina. I'm thinking about finally updating to 13, Ventura, when it comes out but also love Catalina and it works so well. so idk. I want to play around with unreal engine 5 and it needs Big Sur+.

Big Sur and Monterrey is basically the same thing though so I don' think there's too much to think about there.

Unless your current OS is no longer receiving security updates, I see no reason to upgrade. Big Sur is still supported so I would just stick with it if it is working well for you. I am from the school of "if it's not broke, don't fix it."
