buyer's guide says we still have 2 and a bit months left in the current iMac. Besides, whats there to update? They have the latest C2D chips, large enough HDDs, and GPUs which fulfill the needs of a majority of users.

No, since they were recently updated with C2D and stock RAM.

Mac mini on the other hand... :D

To be honest I was hoping for an update that makes it easy to upgrade the graphics card to 7900GT... HEHE Wishful thinking I think!

7600 is fine, but I'm thinking of buying a 24" iMac soon and because it's mid cycle I was hoping there would be an update soon.

Never say never. After all, the Core Duo iMac was released just 3 months after the last G5 model.

But I hope not. I don't want my $3000 baby to be outdated yet.:p

nope!

Too many other things in the pipeline and the iMac is up to date IMO. :)

Maybe not in January, but it won't be too long. I seriously doubt the current revision will last past mid March anyway. I'm waiting for when they ship with Leopard though myself, then I'll be replacing mine.

Apple has no reason to. There isn't very much new technology out that can be put inside the iMac, plus, there are so many other things that need to be updated beside the iMac.

as others have said, there aren't any chips to replace the current ones in there. And the RAM and HD situation is pretty good on the imacs right now (1 GB standard was a nice move). So really, the only upgrade would be the GPU, and I can't see apple doing an update just to change the GPU when the x1600 and 7300 are still decent and the 7600 is very nice.

we'll see imac updates when there are new processors to put in there, and not before.

I was thinking more along the lines of blue-ray, maybe updates to the video cards(possibly all going nVidia (Intel can't have liked AMD/ATI Graphics cards on the machines)), fixes for the wireless bugs that have been reported, I dunno...

Thats complete crap, why would Intel have a problem with apple using ATi over nVidia? It's not like Intel has anything comparable to an ATi card. Just because AMD now owns ATi does not mean that Apple can not use it. Notice that the Mac Pro has a High-End ATi card? Intel doesn't care.

That's what I'm thinking. Updated processor, a little more RAM and bundled with Leopard and I'm there!

(an updated graphics chip would be a bonus!)

I think the 17" model will have a SuperDrive Standard and stay at $1000. And I think that the graphics cards will be updated. Not that I'm looking forward to a new iMac seeing as I don't have the money, just thought I'd give my opinion.

If anything I'd say...

Mini's -> C2D cpu's. They had the silent update but the Mini has been short of a bit of lovin recently.

Macpro's -> Quad Core Clovertowns ?. They've certainly been sampling and have been tested so it wouldnt surprise me one bit if they put quad core's in there OR if not in Jan almost certainly they'll have them ready for CS3's release.

If you were a creative professional with Quad Core Macpro + Intel Native CS3 out there could you resist ?

I say yes,

The iMac is steve's favorite machine. And the iMac has had the same design since the G5!!! Its time for a new look!
However, traditionally when apple changes the design, they upgrade the processor!
