I am very hesitant to get this color because the iPhone 7 Jet Black was an absolute nightmare in terms of scratches...

I'm exactly in the same camp; not sure about how resistant it'll be to everyday use. Also, a shiny watch, might look tacky, a bit hesitant...

I'm also wondering if a Series 9 would be worth it, at a cheaper price... It's only 1mm thinner; and the bezels seem to be bigger. What do you think?

I think the bezel of the Series 10 looks larger because the glass curves more into the sides. So there is more glass and less metal than the Series 9, which causes the Series 10 to look like it has bigger bezels.

Right now I own the Series 7 in midnight, which is practically matte black. I am also not sure whether I would enjoy a glossy black finish. Also looking at the titanium variants, but those are so crazy expensive...

I am also thinking about switching from my Ultra 2 to the new 46mm Series 10. I like my Ultra 2 for the most part, but I have never been a fan of how heavy and thick it is. Now that we are entering into Fall and I am wearing hoodies and long sleeves again, I quickly remembered how annoying it is getting it snagged and caught on my long sleeve cuffs. That's an issue that rarely happened with my old Series 4. Now that the new Series 10 is even thinner I think I might be switching to the Series 10.

I'm a bit torn on this too. Was thinking of upgrading this year due to the battery going bad on my Series 7 (Midnight), but not a fan of the glossy finish and thicker bezels on the glass. Personally, I think it looks better on the 7/8/9, even if the metal frame around it is thicker. Won't know for sure until I see it in person though. You also lose the blood oxygen sensor.

I may just end up sending mine in for a battery replacement and see what they come out with in the next year or two. Sounds like the replacement may have the blood oxygen sensor disabled though.

Nothing's changed in the process. It's aluminum that gets polished then anodized with black dye, just like the iPhone 7. Unless they're layering on that anodization really really thick, it'll scratch all the same. Aluminum is just too soft a material to polish for use on an EDC item imo.

I'll buy one, but I'll wear it as an "on occasion" watch instead of a daily driver. Need to keep it looking pristine.

They probably improved the process. And it is a watch, so hopefully more durable. But the aluminum or sport editions are less durable, screen and casing, so yes, expect it to get beat up.

Although I travel (domestic but some international), I spend hours behind my pc screen for Zooms, emails, and meeting publication deadlines.
I might live in a bubble that perhaps could protect even an aluminum jet black. I know most here are young and quite active so what concern would you have with say your older lawyer friends?

Jet Black iPhone 7 was made by a nine-step processes. Apple Watch Series 10 goes through 30 steps. I think Apple has indeed improved the Jet Black finish after 7 years.

Quote from AppleCare T&C:
Apple will not provide Hardware Services or ADH Services in the following circumstances:
(a) To protect against normal wear and tear, or to repair cosmetic damage not affecting the functionality of the Covered Equipment
Oh I know but if it gets alot of scratches other things will likely happen too

Don’t be so sure. My iPhone is screen is extremely scratched but still fonctionnal. Apple refused to change it with Apple care+ even though some scratches are deep and get annoying while scrolling. Needless to say, I have never bought Apple care* again.

You should’ve made it so it wasn’t functional 😂

Hopefully early reviews will comment on the jet black watch vs jet black iphone 7 series, it would be my first choice otherwise I might go with the gold watch for the first time.

does JerryRigsEverything do apple watches?

After a full week wearing the Apple Watch series 10 42mm jet black aluminum, it still has no scratches and looks pristine. I keep it on day and night (except for charging). The charging speed is fantastic. For now, I'm a happy customer. It's a nice upgrade from a first gen SE.

I have my jet black Apple watch since day one and it looks perfect. The new jet black ink process seems to be working extremely well. Never owned an aluminum model before because the matte finishes always looked cheap. This is one of the best Apple watches I ever owned thanks to its thinness and much improved software. Highly recommended.

I agree. It's the best looking aluminum Apple Watch yet. It has not much to envy to previous stainless steel models.

I think now the watch has been out some weeks now, the answer is; no it doesn't scratch easily in general use unless you are careless and bashing it into brick walls etc. My Series 5 was anodised matt black and didn't chip in 5 years of wearing it, so I have the same expectations of this watch.

There are a few comments on Reddit about people that have scratched their jet black watches
