12/30 - Order
2/14 - In store availability

Been saying this for several months HOPING to be proven wrong.:(

If thats going to be the case I will be buying the older model 12-core 2.93/3.06

This wait is just ridiculous.

Seriously, this a poll? If they can't deliver this year they will certainly open it up for ordering at least.

Let me see, on the one hand they can lose credibility by not letting us order in December, despite long assurances that it will be available, or they can simply let us order and then ship when ready. Is there a choice here?

I think what you're really asking is how many people believe we just haven't hit the right date, vs how many believe it's going to be delayed due to some issue.

I'll let you know my answer to this on or before Jan 1. :D

They should have opened ordering dec 1 with ship date in March. Then maybe surprise! We're ready in jan or feb. Instead it's this ridiculous silence and vague December date.

Think about it

Let's all wait a minute. I'd like to see what the real thing looks like too, but it's hard to believe that Apple, home of some pretty smart business people, is keeping all of us waiting for some obscure, nefarious reason. Something must be delaying the release and I cannot believe it's Apple being arbitrary. They make no money with nothing to sell.

This wait has been ridiculous for at least a year.

They completely missed the Sandy Bridge line, and for a lot of folks that would be a pretty huge upgrade. It brought high clock speeds to the bottom end CPU and higher clock speeds plus more cores to the top end DPs. The more aggressive turbo boosting also meant that the lower clocked bottom end duel processor CPUs would keep up with the single socket higher base frequency CPUs for low threaded work. Meaning, there was less sacrifice on the core count vs clock speed for those in between.

But its been such a long wait that its hard to see Apple losing more sales at this point. So, from their perspective, they are probably just pushing sales into the future, rather than losing them entirely.

You make a good point. But the problem is whatever we think the hold up is, is just speculation on our part. What makes this so ridiculous is that apple should just come out and say what the story is and give us a release date or a delay date, not just keep us blindly waiting yet again.

Another good point. I have always thought that apple should have come out with a sandy bridge version of the old mac pro just to hold people over while they were developing the nMP. But because they didn't people are sick and tired of waiting which backed apple into a corner with a fall 2013 release date which appears that they can't meet.

They gave us a date: December 2013

If they had it ready they would release it, they are not trying to find the best release date for marketing purposes and trying to tease you. It simply isn't ready, otherwise it had been released already.

Well, to follow that train of thought, they are going to miss their date, as a new professional desktop isn't magically going to be ready in the next 2 weeks.

We'll probably get a 'start ordering' in the next few weeks, with shipments in Feb at the earliest. Anything sooner and we would have had real information before this.

Well they originally said "Fall 2013" and that ends on saturday the 21st. Technically it could still happen this week.

they will come out just in time for an epic hype machine induced hysteria right before xmas.
So expect a Dec 20th to 22nd release. And even then it has to be in extremely limited quantities in order to create enough hysteria.

Really Apple, the articificial hype tactics were charming when you were the underdog and had no budget for marketing. But now you can afford to buy smaller companies with you marketing budget alone. You are about as charming as a 45 year old dressing like a tween.

The bit that is kind of freaking me out is the Apple store only listing what must be the bottom two models. Anything better is CTO. So all of us that want a machine with 8 or 12 cores will have to wait extra long, or maybe there are teething problems with the other CPUs?
