I hope not. I wish my macbook had a matte display, it wouldn't show the fingerprints and smudges then. :D

I prefer matte, but I bet they bring out the glossy. It's like a time warp back to the old crts! yay glare!

I don't think they would sell very well with a glossy screen. Desktops tend to stay in the same place over time, which means any annoyong glare issues will bother you forever unless you moved the computer. That is why laptops have it, if there are glare issues, move to another location.

I've found that most Mac users are split in the middle as to whether they prefer a mat or glossy finish to their screens, but I was wondering what you think Apple's take on the situation is?

I think your wrong in saying that Mac users are split over this. I think there was a poll on this issue and IF I remember correctly, overwhelming people preferred Matte.

That being said, if its an option that great as long as they dont force people to go to glossy.

I think it'll be tossed in as another BTO option, and maybe even one on ACDs in the near future. Everyone has their preference, so why not cover all the bases.

The macbook and MBP screens sort of tested the waters for Apple, and with generally good reviews, I think it's not unheard of to see a glossy 17-20" iMac in the next revision.

What type of screen do you prefer on the MacBook (Glossy or Matte)
Glossy 32.31 % (10007)
Matte 44.04 % (13639)
Don't Know 23.65 % (7324)
Total votes: 30970

ok so not overwhelming like I had stated, but still more then a split IMO.

If they forced me to go Glossy, i'd take a knife and scrape it off.

Especially with the position of my desktop, I could not imagine going back to having glare like with my old CRT.

I prefer the glossy. I understand why some people do not like it, but personally I do not get glare where I use my laptop; if I do usually tilting the screen helps.

A lot of new LCD monitors have the glossy finish, and it looks fine. Actually, one of the nicest monitors I have seen, is the HP W19B, I am really impressed with the quality of the monitor. I actually really like HP's LCD Monitors, they are very bright and crisp (either in the glossy or matte). I find they even look better than a lot of Samsung monitors now

Why does your MacBook screen have fingerprints on it? Is it a touchscreen notebook?

Aha no..just silly people who don't realize what they're doing and touch my damn screen. And on the rare occasion when there's dirt on it and I've tried to clean it off because it's been annoying me during a film:eek:
