Ok, I'm still an XP user here. And all my family members uses Vista, and it is horrible in my opinion. So I've been thinking of moving to an iMac so I could use Leopard.

So the things I need to know is, is it safe to buy an iMac now? Or is it worth waiting until January to see if there's a new iMac or other Mac desktop?

And also does anyone know or assuming there will be a new Mac Operating System soon?

Thanks for reading

There's always a new one. No reason to wait. You can count on new Macs every 6-9 months, and a new OS X update every 12-18 months.

If you buy the iMac now, the next release doesn't make the previous version dead in the water....

If you try to keep buying n re-buying latest n greatest, that's the quickest way into debt...

Suppose, but I'm not in a real hurry for one, I'll definitely need one in the Summer next year. So I just want to know if it's worth waiting or not.

Wait till after the WWDC keynote though. One never knows, but the iMac is very unlikely to be in for an overhaul yet.

Edit:
disregard this post ... sorry - keystrokes with brains disengaged...

I am sure there will be new imacs in 2009. heck, there will prolly be new(as in, speed bumped) ones in 2008 yet, but if you don't mind waiting a little longer, it never hurts... much :p

u should wait untill we see what's gonna happen at the wwdc at 9th june
apple have always surprises

and be carful that if your a gammer type person, imacs cant change it's graphic cards  that means your gonna stuck in your graphic card forever :p

nothing before late august (according to intel roadmap) which means probably sept (silent update with ipod release)

I agree that late August at the earliest, probably later given Apple's recent history with the iMac updates. Now is a very safe and good time to buy.

for what it worth

I just got an imac 24 inch screen, i have use pc for ever. I so glad that i made the switch. still have a lot of thing to learn. but the biggest thing is when i have the machine turned off and hit the power button it up and running in about 35-40 seconds. (pc took about 4/5 min to load.) the speed difference in like night and day. I really like the camera i use it to talk to my son who is in new york' i live in wisconsin.

Another thing every thing i plugged in worked. Only thing i lost was the ability to print cd with my canon printer. (hopefully some one will solve this problem.);)

I just moved over to the dark side... ;) I have a 20" iMac, 2.66ghz Intel, 2mb RAM, 320gb hard drive. It runs Windows XP Service Pack 2 without any problems (I purchased an OEM Windows XP from Viosoftware) and all my current Windows programs runs without problems. Don't worry and go ahead and get yourself an iMac. Why wait? :D

Just to echo everyone else in the thread: if you want a new iMac, now's a perfect time to get one. The updated line has some really cool new features, including a beefy graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB VRAM). It's a great investment in a great product that will last you a surprisingly long time.

Unlike Microsoft, Apple doesn't rest on its laurels for 4-5 years between operating system releases. It's constantly releasing new versions of Mac OS X. There are rumors Apple will announce (that's announce, not release or whatever) 10.6 at the WWDC tomorrow, but as Apple has a firm policy of absolutely never discussing unreleased products, it could be all hogwash.

Since 10.5 is still relatively new, it's probably more Apple selling the sizzle early.
