How much "thinner" should an iMac be?
What's the point, other than a stylistic exercise?

I'd rather see the improvements "inside" -- better cooling, higher reliability.

More like €1199 I think. We currently have a 2007 iMac 20" which could easily be replaced be such a machine.

Question is; is it also going to last 8+ years? Probably not.
It's sadly already become a laptop on a stick. Still as long as the public keep buying it. :)

I'll probably get an iMac later this year to replace my MacBook Pro. Now that I'm using an iPad Pro I find I don't need to take the MacBook with me when I travel. Since it will stay home I may as well get the larger screen and better performance of the iMac. I'm basically waiting for the next processor bump.

I don't see what they could do to the iMac that would be dramatic. Better innards - sure. Speakers - probably good enough. I would like a stand like the old lamp style iMac had making the screen position easy to adjust. That probably won't happen.

How about a touch screen? I get it that for most applications it doesn't work, but for some things it might be fun.

How about a curved screen? It might be helpful to add a slight curvature to the screen.

They could make an OLED screen for improving the image a bit. That is probably a few years off yet.

How do you delete your own posts?
You can't. You can report them and if there's no responses to your posts the moderators will remove the post. Just click the Exclamation icon to report and request deletion.

Alternatively you can pay €9.90 per month, which will allow you to replace a random post of yours with another random post of yours. ;)

(I edit my posts to a "." if I want to "delete" them.)

On topic, the only sort of redesign I would like to see is the one that's not going to happen: opening iMacs back for upgrades.

To you? Together with his password? :D

You are a bad guy! :p The Mods/Admins would like to know a reason.

OK, back to topic.... That's the same I want to see. The whole back should be able to open up like it's now for the RAM, just by pushing a button.

Also I'd like to have the bezel under the screen in metallic-violet with hearts and flowers on it. :)
I think there are even stickers/skins for something like that now... Have to look for it...

But I hope they won't change it for a long time. It can't justify to buy a new one in the next 100 years.

I'm glad some folks haven't forgot about iMacs. They seem to not be worried about as much as their laptop lineup. I much prefer desktops vs laptops.

What I want to see is:

  • The bezel to be reduced by 50%. - I think the rMBP bezel size ratio is perfect.
  • Space Grey, Silver, and Gold colors, with matching Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad and Apple logo
  • USB C
  • I/O ports relocated to the Left and Right side of the bottom stand. - their laptops do the same thing!?! why can't their desktops?
  • 4K Camera
  • 256GB flash storage standard.
  • Remove power button from the back and add it to the Magic Keyboard. - why is their still an eject button?
  • Touch ID added to the Magic Trackpad or Magic Keyboard
  • No more of the $50 price increase if you choose the Magic Trackpad over the Magic Mouse.
  • Skylake

If all of these are standard I think the current price of $1499 is okay, but anything lower would be fantastic.

How would you turn on the iMac from a wireless keyboard if there are no power button on the iMac itself? What about people that opt for a different keyboard than the standard included one? Also, without the eject button, how would you turn off the screen while leaving the computer on? (Ctrl + Shift + Eject)

(Okay - I know the last one could just be changed. But still)

I can see apple going the color route, but the colors that they use for the MacBook don't really do much for me.

Going old school with that heh. The old ADB keyboards. Given how wireless technology works, I don't think you can turn on a computer from a wireless device when its off, i.e., there's no power to interact with the computer when its completely powered down. I believe they did away with the powerswitch on the keyboard because USB didn't support such a mechanism as the ADB interface.

Because you're not supposed to see the plugs is my guess.

  • 4K Camera
What in the name of Steve would you need a 4K camera for on a desktop computer? Are you going to take it to the beach to take photos of your kids or to a concert to film some shaky footage for YouTube? Or do you feel the need for 4K FaceTime somehow? :)

(Oh wait, I just remembered some people use computers for... adult purposes. Yes, 4K camera is useful.)

Full agreement here.

They could get me to buy a new mouse especially to use that. Or just a little Touch ID wireless device. No interest in non-ergonomical keyboard though, or a trackpad. Still, I hope they're taking notes from your post. Touch ID and Siri for new Macs, please.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... sorry, but you just suggested Apple should both upgrade the computers significantly and lower their prices, that's hilarious :D I'd rather expect iMac Burberry Edition for $9999.

I would like to see the power button move from the back to the front. I'm sure Apple could make the power button blend into the front so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb yet provide easier access to it.

Isn't the iMac design based on iPod sitting on a dock? The design itself is now quite outdated. I'm wondering what the next iMac's exterior design would be based on... An iPad sitting I keyboard cover...? Or maybe just large "pad" with kickstand?

I think Apple would continue to offer spinning drives mainly due to storage capacity. Desktop users have different preferences, and one of them is storage. 1TB SSD is still a very expensive option, whether Mac or PC.

I want powerful graphics cards offered as option across all trim levels. Now graphics cards are available only on top-end trims. Apple might do this since driving that 21.5" or 27" retina screen requires beefy hardware. But then again, I'm only wishing.

Can I ask why you'd even want this? There is literally no difference from moving around the corner to the back to power it on (and most people leave their iMacs on 24/7 anyhow) all it would actually do is ruin the sleek aesthetics of the computer. An onlookers eye will immediately be drawn to the area that doesn't belong with a circle or whatever placement it is.

Place it in the Apple logo together with TouchID (after setup only owner can switch computer on without specialist equipment). Profit. Release OS X 12.1. "iMacs Won't Switch On Gate"
