Thinking about jumping up to the 12.9, but I want to minimize weight while using, if possible. Thinking about a sleeve rather than a cover. Is this a good way to go?

I use a tri-fold cover since it doubles as stand. Weight becomes less of an issue when the iPad is always resting on something.

Which one? Apple’s?

Nah. $10-20 cases from Amazon.

Right now, I'm using this Khomo case for my 2017 12.9:

I'm currently searching for cases similar to this that will be compatible with the 2021 Pro:

I have 11 inch, not 12.9 but I have both cover and sleeve. I prefer to put the device in a sleeve and then in my backpack when travelling. I find it safer in terms of damage.

I have the Apple Smart Cover. Not really big benefits compared to the ones that Amazon sells (they are way cheaper). That said, I recommend you a cover over a sleeve fort three reasons:

1) you can use the cover as a stand

2) with the iPad camera bump, it’s not even pleasant to use a naked iPad flat on a table. It’s terrible if you’re writing on it.

3) overall, the iPad+cover is generaly lighter than the iPad+sleeve.

I live a sheltered life I guess. I have never seen an iPad sleeve. From the photos in the link, looks like you take the iPad out of it, giving you two items to deal with. That seems inconvenient to me.

I have a foldable cover, which stays fully open when at home, resting on a lamp table. I will only close it if I take my (rather recently purchased) iPad with me somewhere. That hasn't happened yet, with the pandemic keeping me at home more, but soon I'll put it in "travel mode" (close the cover) for a couple of trips.

I do both... I have the magnetic folio cover (I can easily take off it I wanted to). The sleeve I use in one of those lightweight bags when I take it with me in the car.

For me the sleeve is an add-on, more like a bag to go into another bag. I would not use just a sleeve for a “naked” iPad to avoid random scratches to its screen or body.

Quality Hand Made stuff from these. Had black & red leather sleeve for my MacBook Pro Retina in 2013.Shipped to the UK really quick as well.

Smart folio plus sleeve (Cush case, UK).
As evident since 2018, the iPad Pro design - while delightfully slim and lightweight - is quite frail.

I'm looking for a "cheap" sleeve for my 12.9 that can accommodate the device naked, or with the smart folio, or the magic keyboard. Also prefer it to fit the iPad properly, and not one of these generic "it fits with 3 inches left on the side as it's for MacBooks too" ones ;)

Any suggestions?

Ta

I like the felt sleeves from Byrd and Belle. Pricey but well made and as minimalist a sleeve as you can get
