Would I miss a mac? Do you miss it?

Can I use FTP to install woocommerce and themes on a server hosting my wordpress website using my iPad?

I just sold my macbook pro 16 and I wonder if I should but an upcoming imac or stay with my iPad only.

Recently I did not even touch my mac for months but now I will have to create a woocommerce/wordpress website for my new business.

I manage to edit stuff in photoshop and lumafusion on an ipad so I basically dont need a pc or a mac for any other task than maybe managing a website with a shop function (woocommerce).

Help me out whether I need a mac or not, it would suck to pay for a new machine and use it only once a month to change sth on a website having 3 products only.

Every time I try to post on WordPress (not using the app) from my iPad, the post ends up really wonky... but I still do it at times, instead of going downstairs to my computer. It also is more that I am using an old handwriting keyboard that is getting wonky. I have changed to the onscreen keyboard. I did do some of my template design recently on my iPad, but it was much easier on the bigger computer screen LOL. But it is doable...

Do you have a monitor? You could always connect to that to have a bigger view if needed.

You can manage a WordPress site (including themes) from an iPad if it is hosted on Amazon Web Services. There are other options of course but this is one of the easiest to use without a Mac. If you really need to tweak something in the EC2 instance then you can connect via SSH with an app like Shelly and use the Bash command line. That includes fetching themes, plug-ins, etc. via FTP.

In this case you move a lot of what you would normally do with a desktop OS over to a remote virtual machine running some flavour of Linux.

I use my 16” for photo editing and final triaging of photos on my MBP 16” since most of my photos are saved on the MacBook for Wordpress. My drafts and writing are done on the iPad Pro 12.9” with MK using Ulysses.

There is a time and place for both.

AWS one of the easiest hosting solutionsfor Wordpress if you don’t have a Mac? That’s absurd. You don’t need to manage an entirely dedicated environment to run a wordpress site.

How about Wordpress.com or dreamhost? you can install any theme or plugin you care to via a GUI.

The real question is how much editing of themes and core files will you need to do? If it’s small tweaks, they can be made through the GUI and tested live. But if you’re doing a lot of coding and have a need for a test environment, an iPad probably won’t cut it.

As far as writing posts and editing images, I think you’d have no problem managing a wordpress site from an iPad.
