It has come to my attention lately that some Appletv owners don't want an app store. How about you?

Do you want an app store for the Appletv?

Personally, no i don't want one, i just don't see how it could benefit the product for it's functionality as a TV set top box which allows you to view your iTunes gear on your TV.
Having said that, that's my opinion, which is based on how i use the device currently, which i'm pretty sure differs from how other people use it or would like to use it, so i'm not going to say i'm right and everyone else is wrong, far from it, i'm very open to Apple making me change my opinions with a killer app store, however i'm just sick and tired of the "there's a new Apple product - throw an app store on it!" mentality, which alot of people on here seem to have.
The app store on the iPhone/iPod/iPad works awesomely because they are mobile devices and it is suited to the floor for them. The AppleTV is not the same kind of product. If Apple can deliver a quality app store with apps that geniunely improve the living room experience, which for me personally are things like TV on demand services like BBC iPlayer, Hulu for the US etc, i'm very welcoming to that, but only if they don't allow apps that can be done on their other devices. You want to check your facebook from your sofa? get an iPad, that's not what the AppleTV is for.
I love my AppleTV, for me it's probably my favorite piece of Apple kit out of everything Apple i own or have owned, which includes an iMac, all models of iPhone, Time Capsule & a MacBook Pro, and to be fair thats probably why i'm a little over protective of it

Scenerio: I have 5 or 6 friends over for pizza and beer. I think of a cool video clip or pic that someone posted on facebook. Right now I pass around my iPad to half-drunk greasy fingered people. It's too small for 6 people to gather around. Not to mention, I never get it back. Someone always ends up playing Angry Birds or something. Now if it was on Appletv, it would be simple.
My Appletv is a favorite of mine also. That is why I want an app store. I'm not sure it could survive without one. It barely is now. As long as they can do it without changing the basic functionality, streaming my media from my Mac, I'm happy.
Why would you care if some of the available apps are "bad"? You would only install the ones you wanted anyway.
An app store opens up a world of posssibilities, I don't know why you'd be against it even if you never used it. It wouldn't hurt your experience with Apple TV.
Personally I'd kill for an NHL Gamecenter Live app.

App availability means the potential for more "open" development and the possibilities to expand the software scope well beyond what Apple wants to put into it themselves. Recall the very limited functionality of the initial iPhone vs. now. Unchain the multitudes and great uses that Apple cannot even imagine are possible. Lock it down- as it has been for 4 years- and we only get what Apple chooses to give us (or a few hacks with limited additional capabilities).
If we really want to hope, let's hope that more open software (via apps) might also mean more open hardware, so that the thing can expand with hardware add-on's beyond the basics Apple deems stock. My iMac is great and all, but it is a lot greater with the ability to plug in hardware from other creative companies to expand functionality beyond stock capabilities. iPhones, iPads, iPods, Apple laptops & desktops all have more open hardware and software capabilities. Wouldn't it be great if they chose to do the same with a new
TV?
With both (more) open software and hardware, it would have the potential of becoming just about all things to all people... you just have to add the parts & pieces that make it do what you want- just like we do with our desktops, laptops and other iDevice products. Now THAT would be one HOTTTT Apple product.
My money is ready. How about it, Apple?

I do think it would be a good idea. We don't watch much TV and our AppleTV is on most of the time showing pictures. It would be great to be able to glance at the TV from the kitchen or whenever I'm not at the computer (more and more nowadays) to see the weather forecast for the next five days, # of e-mails I have waiting, top news headlines... I know, simple ideas, but I think something like those will be the top sellers...
It would be great if we had the ability to run multiple apps at once (like the dashboard) and be able to configure where we put them on the screen. I'm really interested to see what Apple comes up with for a user interface. I don't think the current iPhone/Touch/iPad interface will work...

I'm fine with Apple TV in its current form. Just add the 99¢ TV show rentals and it's perfect for me.
