OK, restraint is sometimes not my strong suit but I've held off getting an iPhone since it launched but I'm getting close. Steve could have closed the deal if he'd announced a 32GB version as I'm looking to ditch my 30GB video iPod. At work I listen to my iPod constantly using a Jamo i300 that I got when CompUSA went under. I'm really hoping the answer to the following question is "Yes"...does anyone know whether the iPhone and iPod connections are the same? Can I use the Jamo dock to charge my iPhone and listen to music at work?

Yes they're the same. I've used my iPhone with my iPod video docks and the iPod adapter in my car.
the ipod and iphone dock connections are the same but you have to take into consideration that the new iphone is slimmer along the edges.
Does that dock allow you to remove the dock lining and inster a new one in that would fit the iPhone 3g's profile?

Hey, thanks for bringing this up. This shouldn't be an issue. The dock comes with about a half dozen different linings. Here's a close-up of the dock without the lining. If you click on the link you can also see that it's got an aux port for the *really* old ipods there were non-dockable or for other things like a game system or computer.
Just a quick plug for the Jamo's...if you can get your hands on one, buy it. They are without question one of the best 2.1 systems out there. Ironcially, since I use my at work, I never get to play them very loudly. In fact, every time I went to a store to demo a system the guy there would turn volume WAAAAY up. I was like, "Wait a minute, how does this sound at very low volumes?" and the salesperson would look all confused. Before these, I got a heck of a deal on some JBL Creature II but once I heard the Jamo's I returned the JBL's and gladly ponyed up the money.
My only concern would be the gsm interference the iPhone might cause. Does your current phone affect the speakers when you put it near them? I have the JBL soundsticks and my old iphone never interefered. Other than that it looks great.
I've never had any interference issues between my current iPod sound setup and my Blackberry 7100t (on a T-Mobile network). However, when I'm on my phone at work and my blackberry is either ringing or just communicating with a cell tower sometimes I'll hear the interference in my headset. Thanks.

Before I go digging out my Jamo's which are boxed up, I finally got an iPhone 3GS and wondered a couple of things.
First, it sounds the dock will have no problem CHARGING the iPhone but...
While the iPhone is in the dock, can I use the speakerphone / mic functionality for conference calls?
Ideally, rather than the small speaker on the iPhone, the sound would come out of the speakers instead. I'm just thinking that it might not work because the mic is located on the bottom and covered up while in the charging stand.

You may have an issue with that... Now iPhone docks have a little hole that goes through so sound can still reach the mic, but this probably doesn't. You may have to get a bluetooth handsfree unit if you want that.
