Since the 10.4.6 update (This is my only complaint, seriously), my Dock has been crashing. Most of the time, I can use Activity Monitor to restart it. Last night (actually, early this morning) it crashed after iLife '06 finished installing and never came back. The process just disappeared! Anyone know why? Also, I know that "killall Dock" will force quit the Dock, but what starts in it again in Terminal? Or is there a way to start it in Activity Monitor? What about just double-clicking Dock.app? I just deleted the Dock preferences; maybe that will help.

The Dock should restart after killing it in Terminal. Is it not doing this?

Also, the preference removal is an intelligent idea. Tell us how things go. :)

Usually, it does, whether I use Terminal or Activity Monitor. Last night, it just disappeared and neither Terminal nor Activity Monitor showed "Dock" as a valid process. It didn't come back until I logged out and then back in.

I will, and I hope that it doesn't happen again. It'd be nice if OS X could (better) detect corrupted or invalid prefs files and ask if we'd like them deleted.
