iPod dock isn't recognizing ipod mini?

I just got a dock for my iPod mini and when I put the mini in the dock it flashes "Do not disconnect" but it never shows up in iTunes or anything.

However, if I just hook my iPod to the USB cable directly it works. I tried it with the firewire cable and it doesn't even turn on and say "Do not disconnect"

Any suggestions?

well i would think about taking the dock back for an exchange or return

the only thing i can see is that the dock isnt working as it should, so i would get apple to replace it for you
