First post although I have been following all things iPad on macrumors for the past few weeks. I purchased the VGA connector along with a case and the iPad on launch. I just tested out the VGA connector this past week and noticed that when using keynote the image doesn't display on the iPad. All that displays is a back and forward arrow along with the functionality to use a laser pointer displayed to the video out. I was under the assumption that the image would be displayed on the iPad as well as the projector. In essense it turns the ipad into a giant clicker. This is pretty unacceptable and makes it undesirable to deliver presentations via iPad.

I've contacted apple and voiced my displeasure. Anyone else purchase the VGA connector for presentation purposes and feel ripped off?

Don't know if I feel ripped off, but I am dissapointed at how Apple chose to implement Keynote and the display function. We were looking at this for some of our sales folks for presentations. Our hope was you would have the iPad at the lecturn, and not have to glance at the screen.

Overall the integration of the iPad with the VGA cable, and the external keyboard have been a big letdown. All I can hope is many of these issues will be corrected in the 4.0 update.

Typical for Apple; take your money first, then take time to make it all actually work.

It might be a hardware issue though. iPad's "graphic card" may not be able to drive two displays simultaneously.

I know how you feel. I have a presentation due in 2 weeks so I have been putting it together in Keynote. I am about half way done so I decided to hook up the ipad to the projector and couldn't believe I couldn't see the slides on the ipad. You can get the thumbnails but you can't read them because they are so small. I have been searching the web to see if I didn't use the right settings or something. There has to be a way to do double display or this is pretty useless.

Yeah I saw the thumbnail slides that appear on the left side of the screen. As you said, they are too small to read. Pretty pointless.

I had just assumed that it would be a dual image displayed like on a MacBook or any other laptop. Guess I shouldn't have assumed.

I can't believe this would be an omission. It would be the perfect presentation device except for the cable hanging out the bottom (that actually could fall off if you are holding the device and moving around a bit).
I sure hope they fix this in a new release of Keynote. I guess I will have to go back to using crappy Powerpoint on my work, piece of crap, Dell. Keynote is so cool and easy to use on the ipad and that is what frustrates me the most!

Yeah this is pretty shocking. Keynote presentations using iPad has the potential to be unbelievable. In my opinion this is the biggest iPad fail so far.

Do you guys have to make it any worse for me for presenting to a class of 50 boys in a few days time?

Hey, you are in UK. You don't have any iPads yet ;) Just use your laptop. No problem there whatsoever :D

It is when there's only one plug available and I have to ensure that it is fully charged before giving a 60 pages presentation lasting for an hour with kids who won't shut up. :/

I can't keep lugging my laptop with me though :/ It's like everyday, and for a student, it isn't practical.
