So from what I've read it seems like you can dock to the keyboard, but as far as connecting a bluetooth mouse it wont work? Seems silly to me.

They want you to put your sticky fingers all over the screen. I nearly (thank god I didn't) bought a touch screen PC at Costco last year. Imagine how tired my arms would have gotten, reaching out..sigh. I think screens and keyboard should be mutually exclusive areas of a product bigger than a phone.

The point of the keyboard is so you can comfortably type you masters thesis or great American novel project on real keys (faster than putzing around with the display keyboard and auto-fix). The UI, OTOH, does not really fit with using a mouse, so, what would be the point of a mouse in the multi-touch environment? The OS may not even have mouse/cursor APIs.

1) Why would you need a mouse on a touchscreen device?
2) There's already a keyboard use in the OS, so I'm assuming that supporting an external keyboard is easier. An external keyboard will also allow much faster typing, which is why it's much more necessary than a mouse.
3) Why would you need a mouse on a touchscreen device?
4) See No. 1.

Why do you need a touchscreen device this LARGE, is the bigger question.

The keyboard dock is a replacement for the software keyboard. What would a mouse replace, your hand? iPhone OS is designed for a multi-touch user interface, not WIMP.

However, it would be useful if you could use a mouse with a remote desktop app.

A lot of the browsing and other functions on iPods/iPhone/iPad do not require more than tapping around with your finger. If they are giving an optional dock with keyboard, it would make sense for the multi-touch gestures of the magic mouse to work as well.
