Running Monterey 12.3.1 under OCLP 0.4.3 on an iMac 15,1 model Late 2014.
I am not an expert at all when it comes to folder permissions.
I have used darker icons successfully for all of the folders in my home folder except for the Documents folder.
The permissions for all of those folders look the same, but the Documents folder will not accept a new icon.
Can I use this;
1. First need to give Terminal Full Disk Access
2. sudo chown davidv ~/Users/davidv/Documents
and will it make it possible to change the folder's icon?

I had the same problem this weekend after doing a fresh install of Monterey 12.3.1 on a new external ssd from a 2017 iMac. The Documents folder wouldn't let me change the icon, but I could change the Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, etc icons just fine.

After doing a few tweaks on the fresh install, I used Migration Assistant to copy a few things over from my main drive. I only selected 'Applications', 'Other Files & Folders', and 'System & Network'. After it was done, the Documents folder had the icon which I previously had on the main drive, which was a relief from the bland blue they force on us.

Then I did another fresh install of 12.3.1 on another external ssd which had the same problem, but this one also wouldn't let me change the hard drive icon either. So after doing another Migration Assistant, the Document folder now had my preferred icon, but there was still some iffy stuff going on with the hard drive icon. It eventually let me change the icon when booted in the external, but when booting back to my internal, it shows the generic Mac OS drive icon on the desktop for the external. This never used to happen before, all the tweaked Mac OS hard drive icons would show no matter which drive I booted into, but now they're just the generic ones, though the drives which don't have the operating system on it do keep my preferred icons.

Then I did this fresh install again on a 3rd external ssd and had the same issues as before. I'm not sure why or how the Documents folder permission is blocking us from changing it, and why when booting into another drive it now shows the generic hard drive icons on the desktop for external Montereys instead of our tweaked preferred ones. Something has definitely changed but I haven't been able to figure out how or what to do from here.

Good luck to you. Hopefully someone can help us figure this out.

That was interesting!
I think we need the advice of someone well versed in using the Unix chmod and chown commands.
I tried to look that subject up on the net and soon realized that it is a rather complex subject.
The commands themself are not that complex, but whether or not using them will break the OCLP install is another matter. Having that off-color Document folder icon (while it is ugly) is bearable, compared with a broken installation!
I may be being too hesitant, but I hate redoing the whole disk, and I have several jobs coming in, so I will wait a while before experimenting further.

I have heard that using the migration assistant only works immediately after the system install when using OCLP. It is interesting to hear that you were successful running it.

Thanks again for the info.

Oh, just to clarify, I didn't use the legacy patcher as my 2017 iMac is compatible with Monterey, so it was just a normal install.

These few quirks that suddenly occurred in this version of OS can be irritating to someone a bit OCD (lol). :)
