Documents and iCloud

Ok, so I saw the iWork button on iCloud. I also saw the hefty price tag of 10.00 for each component (keynote, pages, numbers), even if you already own the full iWork on your mac!

My question is, I already have Quick Office Pro on my iPhone, which I have been using to handle documents. I use actual Microsoft office on my MBP. In order to use iCloud am I forced to use iWork now on both devices? (Before I could just store my docs on Mobile Me iDisk)

Is there a way at all to use a different application between my iPhone and MBP for documents, and can it be a different app from iWork?? Will iCloud be open to other apps to store data, like Quick Office (or Documents2Go which I also have paid for)? ANd will that data be somehow available also through other document creation / editing apps? (as in can two different apps shear the same files)?

Now yes, until MS and other developers make use of the iCloud API to store and use documents in iCloud. I am not holding my breath for MS to step up and upgrade Office anytime soon to take advantage of this.....I am sure they will, but when, who knows.

Ok so I went ahead and got the iOs versions... here's my issue... how do I update the word 09, if I had it prior to the App Store launch? I got it from Best Buy originally. It is not picking up changes in the computer's software update... it says everything is up to date... but I can't find anywhere in the app on my MBP, to turn on iCloud for pages, numbers, keynote. Is it automatic?

You mean iWork 2009? That is the most recent, there are no updates for it to support iCloud yet....iWork on your MBP does not automatically save or download from iCloud yet, there is an update coming for that, we are all waiting for it, hopefully it is coming soon.

The IOS versions do already, if you open Pages or Numbers on your IOS 5 device it will automatically show docs in iCloud for you to work with and automatically save those docs back to iCloud for you. I expect iWork '09 to work exactly the same way, only with the option to save locally as well retained.

So today, from your Mac, open iCloud.com, go to your iWork document area and you can drag and drop files there for use on iWork locally, then drop them back to icloud.com for using on your IOS device. PITA I know, but hopefully only a short term issue.

Absolutely hate this aspect of it. I would like to edit a document on my Mac, save, then go to my iPad and be able to pickup where I left off.

This is the next logical step for where they take iCloud integration. But, the implementation probably isn't as easy as it seems to us non-coders. They do have great examples out in the market in Dropbox and Sugarsync though.
