I have been using this app to read PDFs from my college professors, I like to annotate them for reference. But when I hit the share button to save to my google drive, it does not save my annotations, that have notes and highlights I made in the app.

I open them up in my google drive, and my annotations are not there.

When sharing, you should have the choice between “Document” or “Flattened copy”.
Read the help text inside this message box to decide what you want.

I have done this, neither work, flattened just sends it to another iPad or iPhone and I can’t find the document, and as an editable pdf, does not save the annotations.

So, what do you mean by “open them up in my google drive” - I mean with which app?

I mean, I share the document to my google drive account, and then open and view the pdf in my google drive, but the annotations are not there.

OK, I think I can reproduce your problem - but only if I share the annotated pdf from within the file list view in PDF Expert. There I tap the three dots at the right of the file name to open the contextual menu and tap Share.

But, if I first open the annotated pdf in PDF Expert and then tap the three dots at the top right, I tap Share and choose Flattened Copy. In that case, I can see the annotations when I later open the file in Google Drive.

What I did for myself was to add my Google Drive to the account list in PDF Expert. I never use the Google Drive app to open documents, I always thought of it as just a file manager.

Yeah, we think I found this too, thank you. Are there any iOS apps that can save annotated PDFs that can be edited? This one can save annotations, but they cannot be edited after the fact since it flattens them.

Instead of "Flattened Copy", choose "Document" during the PDF Expert sharing process.
