Documents in iCloud

Hello all,

So I took the plunge and switched over to iCloud. I like it pretty well, but I've yet figured out how to utilize the documents part of it.

How do I tell the computer or my phone which documents to upload?

iCloud website... It displays the documents stored on your phone/iPad, and if you tap the gear, you have the option to upload a doc from your computer, to your iDevices.

Not ideal, but that's the way it is :/

Lol. So iCloud won't transfer a doc from one computer to another? Only from iPhone/ipad to computer?

No you can upload iWork, word, excel and ppt as well as txt and csv files to iCloud manually without owning iWork.

Goto iCloud.com. Press the iWork icon. Press the gear icon. Upload document(s).

When I open the iWork in iCloud it prompts me to purchase numbers or pages. I must be missing something. Also, how do you send a document to iCloud from iOS? Is there an option within the app in which you open the document? Sorry for all the questions but for whatever reason I can not figure this out.

The only iOS apps that currently support iCloud documents are Apples iWork apps.

The iCloud document syncing was a big flop. I originally thought I might have my documents on my computer synced with iOS. It's not like that...

You should be able to ignore that and click the settings cog wheel in the upper right corner and choose to upload docs. I heard drag and drop works too but I haven't tried it myself.

If you know you don't have a clue what you're talking about, please refrain from answering. If you think you know what you're talking about but haven't done it yourself, please do us and yourself the favor of checking if you're correct or not before hitting that "submit reply"-button.

That way, rumors won't be spread as easily and people won't have to sit there and wonder why it doesn't work for them when it seems to be working for others.

iCloud Documents still need some improvement from Apple in terms of Mac integration, though. Ideally iWork from Mac should be able to open and sync documents the same way iWork for iOS does, but it is not the case at this point.
iDisk still works though, until 30 june 2012. I hope Apple releases an appropriate update of iWork for Mac by then.

If I go to icloud.com and press iWork, I can choose to return to the main menu by clicking the cloud in the upper left corner, or choose to buy or know more about Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iOS. Nowhere is there a cog wheel or any other means of skipping the step where you have to buy the iWork apps.

We're trying to find the answer here. I'm trying to figure out whether having a document uploaded to icloud.com/iwork will initialize the iWork functionality in the web app.
As I said, it works even on a Windows PC, on which you can't, by definition, have iWork installed, so I doubt having iWork installed on the Mac is a pre-requisite per se (insofar that I don't see that Web App going to lengths as in scanning your Mac for the existence of an iWork installation). I would bet that if documents have already been uploaded there from an iOS device, that webpage offering to buy or learn more about iWork will be forgone.

Edit: Okay, I got it now. Yep you need to have an iWork app installed on an iOS device to use iCloud documents, thus far.

I never said the cog wheel was supposed to be in the upper left corner, I explained what options I have when I enter the page.

This is what I see. Why don't you give me and the others in the same situation a step-by-step guide to how to activate this part of iCloud without buying the iWork apps?

iWork for Mac will be updated to support auto up/download with iCloud. All part of the shift apple is making to rid OS X of a file system.

I do not see the cog wheel either. It appears that I will have to purchase iWorks apps such as pages for it to work. And the question still stands on how to pull a document down to your iOS device or how to send it to iCloud from your iOS device. This is frustrating.

Yes. But you're the only one saying it's possible to activate iWork on iCloud without the iWork apps.
