Documents on the Cloud (sync doubt)

Hi. This is a question for people testing Mountain Lion. I know that you can't test Pages documents in the Cloud but I guess should be the same with Textedit or Preview.
My question is: can you save a document in the mac (local copy) in any of my folders, e.g. Documents and also mark this file in order to sync it in iCloud to read it on my iPad?
I have seen that you can save the document in iCloud but I don't want to save in iCloud but save on my mac and sync through iCloud. Is that possible? Or I have to loose my local copy...
There must be a local copy because ios apps have (I can manage Pages files without internet) but if this local copy on my mac it's "hidden" in my library folder or somthere else and I can not move it to my Documents folder or any other this is not useful for me at least.
What if I want to load a file save on iCloud without internet?

I know we have not seen a keynote about Mountain lion and we will but Apple sometimes do not explain this things properly, not even in the support pages, so maybe someone can test it for me

There is a local copy, but as you note it is hidden away. What you can do though is make an Alias for that folder and place it in your documents folder. For example. Create a Pages alias in your Documents folder, a Numbers one, and a Keynote one. Then you can work locally through files in those folders and they will autosync to the iCloud but also be on your local copy, to be uploaded when you get into an internet zone.

The only problem is that right now there are a few glitches. You need to save the files as:

x.pages
x.numbers
etc.

where X is the name of your document. This works in Lion already by the way.

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I have to say that this looks like a big mess... I love my stacks, my folder organization and... well, my Finder. So this workflow is not valid for me.

So, next question. Is there as easy way to send files to iCloud with the Finder. I mean, if there is a button or an icon in the sidebar as Airdrop that I can use to send a pages file and that automatically sends it to the right aplication folder.

It would be really nice if there were some workflow does won't need to open a website on Safari or Pages in order to send files to iCloud. I guess that it won't be a way to download the modified version from iCloud to Finder besides Open Safari or Pages.... But it eill solve part of the problem.

I don't know if "better" is how they would describe it. I think they would tend to think if more as being something that is easier for the average person to pick up and grasp somewhat quickly. Instead of someone saving a file and forgetting which folder it is in they can just save it to iCloud and then whatever app they are in will take care of the rest.

I agree. It's so much easier to just open itunes or iphoto and find all the media or photos instead of looking for them around the Finder. I know a lot of users that just need for a computer what the ipad can give them and I can see how this system fits with them. My problem is not the workflow itself my problem is that this workflow has not been properly thought (I don't know if this is grammatically correct, sorry).

What happens if I can not connect to internet? My iPad shows me all the files no matter what because there no a visible file system. But on my mac if I can not connect to internet, should I have to look inside my library to open the local copy? What if I want to recover a previous version with Time Machine? What if I want to use this file with two or more app?

The theory system is ok with me, the problem is that Apple do not give us the theory system just an approach, and that is what causes the problems.

Just take a look at the new iPhoto app for IOS: I edit a photo on iphoto but this photo do not sync with the photo app nor the iphoto on mac, I have to export it to the camera roll, delete the original, sync with the computer, import in iPhoto in order to create an event, don't forget to delete the copy in the camera roll, and sync again. All this to be not able to preserve the original shot because iPhoto and Photo apps for IOS can't preserve it and hide it to the users.

The same way IOS can't manage the iWork versions of a document.

If Apple want to change the way I manage my files first they should finish the system and change everything to fits with it, instead of give me a half done system and even contradictory one.
