Take a look at this screenshot from the Apple UK refurb store.

All are 15" MacBook Pros but how the heck did the first one ever cost £2000?

When you look at the figures for the rest of them it really doesn't add up...

Extra RAM! FAST Hard Disk.. That's a bloody good deal!

It hasn't got extra RAM though (the high end models come with 1GB) and the hard disk would not have made it £350 more than the model below it.

However it is cheaper than the model below it that has a slower HDD.

Edit: Maybe it's the fact that it's got 1 DIMM as opposed to 2x512 DIMMS that would have made it more (do they come with 1 DIMM normally?), but it wouldn't have made it that much more.

False advertising maybe?

You're right, that does seem odd. Perhaps they mean the 17" one, but even then the top spec one only costs £1899.

Would seem to be an *early* MBP where you had to pay the £200 or so premium for the extra 0.16 processor. That\'s my thought anyway.

Good point but it still doesn't explain either the original or refurb price though. Even with a £200 premium it wouldn't have been £2059 and knocking £800 off it.

Ah well. If I had £1200 it might be worth a punt.

I've got the £1200 but I don't 'need' it...

Waits... ;)

You're too restrained. What with resisting an Ultimate BlackBook in JL (even with your discount card). ;)

And, doesn't it say plenty about my continued state that I'm looking at the main Apple and Apple refurb store almost every day (even though I'm not sure I'd even buy a refurb but....).

The BTO point could well make up a chunk of the phantom original price. I just can't fathom why a better specced machine is cheaper than the lower model below it though.

I assume the reason the MBP in question is in the refurb store at all is that it was ordered (with certain specs changed, ie. RAM, HDD speed) and then returned due to whatever reason. In this case Apple then have a different-than-advertised Mac that they need to get rid of to cover costs, step forward the refurb store.

I got my MBP from the refurb store and saved in excess of £450 on what the model +upgrades would have cost brand new. And with not a blemish on it, I can't help but feel very pleased with my purchase!
