Or does anyone have a fix after the wonderful iOS12 stops iTunes from bringing up 'Devices' or doing anything now related to backing up or adding to phone?

What version of iTunes are you running and on what - IOS 12 required an updated version of iTunes.
Provided you're up to date with your iTunes software - 12.1 fixed this syncing recognition issue for me, and I hopped on board with beta 2.

Thanks. Does Mojave carry a newer iTunes than 12.8 that can’t be downloaded now if we can’t get Mojave?
I am running Mojave and iTunes is 12.9. When I updated my phone to IOS12, I was on Sierra and iTunes 12.8. I got a popup during the update for the patch download.

Surprised as am guessing many iPhone users have now experienced this problem. And it’s not like we’re on really old OS, that locks us out, which did happen to me when I was still running Snow Leopard.
