Does 3.1 break your BenM tethering?

For those of use that want a simple response rather than reading through a 20 page thread...simply answer whether updating to 3.1 broke your BenM hack for tethering on US AT&T networks. Please only vote if you are using the BenM hack on AT&T and have updated to 3.1 and then tested tethering.

If you are not in the US, not using the BenM hack, not using AT&T, or have a jailbroken phone please don't vote.

If you want to post a pithy comment about how tethering is unnecessary because you never leave your college campus and think the whole world is bathed in free wifi, please refrain.

I did the following:

o Updated my 3G to 3.1

o Left my iPhone connected to my Mac via USB. iTunes was still running.

o I turned off my Mac's Airport and my iPhone's WiFi. Went into the iPhone's menu, selected General>Network. Was delighted to see that the Tethering option was still there.

o Turned on tethering. It worked! I tried loading a web page into Firefox. It popped right up.

o Suddenly the iPhone started syncing. I flipped back to iTunes in time to catch a message, "Verifying iPhone" (or something of the sort-- it was up for just an eyeblink).

o Firefox now complained it was offline. And I watched the iPhone's screen as the tethering option disappeared!

Whoa.

As of this date (19 Sep 09), help.benm.at still says they're working on a tethering option for OS 3.1. The only approach at this point is to downgrade to 3.0.

Countless thousands of Blackberry owners can tether. AT&T (and, since one is judged by the company one keeps, Apple) is seriously behind the curve on this.

Oh dang, you got me. But no, this is why I spend about 24 hours searching and testing ways to downgrade to 3.0.1 again. Not all places on campus are wifi-ed.
