Does AirPlay Mirroring have any restrictions?

Will AirPlay Mirroring in Mountain Lion work with anything that is shown on your Mac? More specifically, will it work to show any streaming video/website or are there restrictions?

I'm wanting to stream HBO Go to my TV and it doesn't work from the iPad, but I figure I could do it from the Mac to the TV if I have the HBO Go website up.

This works, but when I did it, there was too much lag between the laptop and TV. This was with a 300Mbps wireless connection on the 2011 MBA and Gigabit connection on the ATV3.

I use the HDMI adapter for my laptop instead for HBO Go.

Did the lag cause the video to buffer or play otherwise badly?

Unfortunately I don't have a laptop, only an iMac that is in another room. My other option is to use a Apple Digital AV cable from my jailbroken iPhone to the TV via HDMI, but I would need to buy the cable. Figured maybe I could kill two birds with one stone (upgrade to Mountain Lion and get HBO GO on the TV).

I have never experienced lag with Air to ATV2 or iPad to ATV2 so perhaps it is just a poor connection for you?

I know you can throw out speed numbers, but that does not mean everything is actually running at or even close to those numbers.

I have been able to stream everything to ATV with airplay that I have wanted to. No limitations.

Hmm, just found out I need a 1080p Apple TV and I only have the 720p version. I'll look into AirParrot instead I guess.

Nevermind, looks like the Apple TV 2 works fine...however my iMac is a Mid 2010 model and looks like it won't work anyway.

It played horribly - wasn't something I could deal with so I haven't used it since.

I verified the numbers with the detailed wireless info (hold ALT and click on the wireless icon to view your connection details). This info is the current connection strength and speed - not an estimation. Also the 1 Gigabit is the actual speed since both the ATV3 and the router I use support 1GbE (verified in the router). So 300Mbps and lag.

It may work better at 720p (ATV2 limit) since it has less data to first compress and then send over the link. I was connecting with 1080p.

Nevermind, looks like the Apple TV 2 works fine...however my iMac is a Mid 2010 model and looks like it won't work anyway.

If you're considering AirParrot, I think the 2010 model works fine with that. Airplay mirroring uses something in the Core i5 gen2+ series but I don't think AirParrot uses the same tech.
