This is one of my favorite Windows games, and I'd like to pick it up, but I've heard mixed reviews of the port. Can anyone tell me if it works on 10.4 and maybe even 10.5?

Yes, there is an OS X patch for it. Works in 10.4 and 5. Good luck finding a copy, though.

Here is a link to Brad Oliver's blog post where he put up the Carbonized version of SMAC and SMAX (they are in the same archive iirc).

I haven't played them on 10.5 but I think they were a little buggy on 10.4 (sound issues - graphics got a little hinky).

The toughest part for you is going to be finding a CD at a reasonable price. Right now on eBay, SMAC is listed at $114 and SMAX at $75. I once saw SMAX sell for over $200.

And no, you can't buy my copies. In fact - after I finish the project I'm working on, I think I might see if I can get these going on 10.5.

After all - it is every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks.

Brad's latest betas (b3) work nearly flawlessly for me on both my Intel iMac and Macbook (both running Leopard, so I assume it'd work for Tiger too). Even multiplayer works fine.
