I'm debating getting a MBP M1 to tie me over for a bit until the M2X or something :) and I'm wondering if the machine will perform just as good as my MBP 16" i9 that I have now or at least close!

These two does not have stable release of native version, and you will not be satisfied with the rosetta performance.(Lots of spins, which is rare on M1 macs).

There is a beta version for PS, but that one does not support Camera RAW.

I run Photoshop just fine. some files have 200 layers. I also use the Native version of Photoshop currently in beta. Very fast but no Camera RAW support and when you try to highlight text, there is no actual highlight, its invisible. But does work.

In Lightroom, i manage 50 megapixel RAW images just fine as well.
