Does anyone else find the new Mini to be somewhat insulting?

I feel like Apple is really insulting my intelligence here. After so long of waiting for Mini updates, I think it's safe to say that many of us have been expecting a great update.

Instead, what do we get?

$600 for a machine with no keyboard, mouse, display, and 1GB of RAM. And look at what you get in the $800 version... 2GB and a larger hard drive. Are you kidding us, Apple?
 
Comes with Leopard and iLife.

I would consider that a deal!

Combine that with an education discount and the free printer deal, I would consider that a STEAL!
 
Well it's less insulting than the same price for a 667 Core2 , Combo Drive, 667 DDR2 and Intel GMA graphics.

The combo drive was just a slap in the face.
 
You know what, no. Just no. If you don't like this revision after a year and a half of not being touched, just wait until 2011, or don't buy it at all.
 
Insulting? That's an odd choice of words! Overpriced maybe. I would have expected a base model with maybe a slightly slower processor for £399 and a top end model for £549.
 
Faster, dual display, Firewire 800, 5 USB ports, drives a 30" Cinema Display, nice hard drive on the top end, far better graphics, Combo drive has finally gone, Mini DVI to DVI adapter in box.

Looks good to me. Only bummer is the remote is now a BTO, and not enough RAM on the baseline.
 
What were you expecting? The Mac Mini was never meant to be a high end system. The prices seem quite high, but then again, it is Apple, so nothing new there.
 
Dual display is fantastic, and the 9400M is a real step forward. Throw in that the old Mini was just lame and it's reasonable.

After trying Windows 7, I'm swayed less and less by the OSX argument.

I do have to agree with that. Apple kept that around WAYYYY too long. DVD burners are so cheap now-a-days.

You know, I thought that too.... but just realized, with the last two Macs I bought, I can't recall burning ANYTHING. It's all on the NAS now.
 
The specs and price weren't what I was hoping for after waiting for so long... but I was still first in line at the Regent St. store - 13W at idle is amazing.
 
It's not "insulting" (I mean, come on!), but it is a little confusing. The components in the new mac mini have been in the macbook for 4 months now - if this is all they were going to do with it, why the wait? Because they didn't have enough chips to build both mac minis and macbooks until now, and they'd rather sell macbooks?

Honestly, I don't get it. I mean the delay in mac pro updates, Ok - the chips they're using only just became available.

All of that said, the new mini is a very tempting little fella. I'd love to get one to use with an eyetv (mac media center!).
 
The mac mini is just fine the way it is. It is a replacement to the emac.
If it does not provide you with the power you need or want, don't buy it.

Uses that are perfect for the mini.
1. Media server
2. Schools
3. A second computer for general use in your home

I will be buying this to replace my children's emac, in their room.

this is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but if you don't get the remote is the ir receiver still in the mini? i'm going to be using my harmony 880 with it for plex and need to know
