So I've been using an imac for the past 11 years and built myself a new computer to upgrade. Problem is, every monitor I've tried seems to give me some pretty bad eye strain. My eyes burn and start to give me a headache not even 15 minutes after looking at them. I must have tried around 12 different monitors. I don't get this when looking at tablets/tvs/phones or my imac but for whatever reason, any new computer monitor I use does this. I'm wondering if it's the matte coating that they use, because I could feel the irritation was worse on certain monitors that had really poor quality coatings.
I've had my eyes checked and there are no issues there. So there has to be something that these displays are doing that my eyes are sensitive to. I just don't know how to solve that problem. On any 4k screen, I upscale the resolution so it's not so tiny. I keep the brightness low, use warm light filters (f.lux) to reduce color vibrancy and made sure all the monitors I tried were PWM flicker free. Does anyone else have problems like this? How did you solve the issue?

I had some bad issues this year with this, mostly towards night. For example I purchased a ASUS gaming monitor 165Hz and it was awful despite the high ratings. Way to bright on even the lowest setting and the picture had no depth to it. It was fine during the say but it was obnoxious to look at past sunset.

I ended up getting a HP Dreamcolor G2 which I love though expensive at $900.

I have the HP Z27K G3 :). I highly recommend it, and so great for no eye strain [I do a lot of 3D / CAD work and on it for long periods].
As reference I previously was using the LG 24” 4K and whilst the resolution and clarity is great, there is no way I would go back.

I was looking at the 32" G3 actually not too long ago as well but holding off for now. Glad to hear the 27" G3 is very good. Looking over it now a few difference from my current G2. Unfortunately I see they increased the G2 Dream Color to $1034!
