does anyone else who bought he 20 inch imac wish they got the 24 instead now?

same here. 24 is too big for me. I've been using a 15 inch
studio display with my G4 for the last 5 years and to jump to a 24 inch would give me a heart attack!Very happy with my 20", nice step up from my 17". 24" is overkill for my desk. Plus I have $300 more in my pocket.

Needless to say that I abandon MR forums after new products come out due to the onslaught of grief expressed by so many people.
my original plan was to purchase the white 24" but now that i have the newer 20" 2.4 i am very happy i did not get the 24. It would of been overkill for me specially since I'm running a dual monitor setup. it could of made my dual monitor setup look stupid because of the size difference
What you are feeling is known as cognitive dissonance. It's quite common following 'major' purchases.

Bought a 20" mac on Saturday.I've spent hours trying to get a decent picture,its doing my head in.I found that the previous model was a far superior screen.Made my decision today that if my local Apple store doesnt have the 24" model then its refund time and I'll stick with my mbp (led).
I have a 20" iMac but it is from the day it came out. When Apple switched to intel. Macworld 2006 I think.
I wish I could have a 24" now.
But I also have dual monitors with another 20" dell So I guess I have about the same if not more screen then I would with a 24"
And I can have two things open at a time easier then on one 24".
So if you are feeling like you should have gotten a 24" maybe get a second monitor and you will feel better.

I went to see both at the stores today. Both are nice. I'd get the 24" if I could, but since last week I bumped another car to the tune of at least $650 in damage, I'm only gonna be able to afford to get the 20".
I wouldn't even buy that, except I have reason to believe my PowerBook G4 is dying so here's an excuse to upgrade.
Like the previous poster, I figure in the future I can buy me a nice 20", 24" or even 27" monitor to make up for most of what I'm missing.
I love my 20 inch sometimes I wish I had the sharper color of the 24 but then I look at my Dell next to me and quit dreaming. No complaints with the 20 inch so far works great.
I have a rev. A G5 20", and I agree that the 24" is a bit overkill for most uses. When I play with one in the store I find myself having to look around the screen more to find things. I can see it being handy for people who open multiple docs, web pages, or apps simultaneously though. hopefully most people will try both sizes out and make the right decision instead of just ordering it sight unseen online.
I went through the buyer's remorse too, partly due to comments on boards like these. The day I bought at the Apple Store, I looked at both models and could see that the 24' display looked a little better, but I decided that it was not $300 better, and I didn't need or really desire the extra screen space.
I wasn't crazy about the 20' display once I got home, but color calibration resolved my issues. I use the 2.2 gamma, native white point, and I have the brightness dialed down to about 40% of full. It works for me. Yes, there are distortions when looking at an angle, but it's not how I look at my screen.
During the first 5 days or so of my discontent, I did seriously think about returning the iMac, but I didn't because of the restocking fee, hassle of bringing it in, etc. Tomorrow will be day 14 of my purchase, and I'm happy with it. No intent to return it.
If I had to do it all over again, I might go with the 24' screen. It would be a toss-up again. But despite the naysayers, I have grown to like my 20' model more and more, and I'm very satisfied.

Basically, it helps you calibrate your display to your liking. I finally got the contrast right with mine. My default color profile was miserable.

Now that that's out of the way, I bought the 24" 2.8Ghz. Knew exactly what I wanted and needed this size because I am going to hang it on the wall of my living room and attach the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to it for TV viewing so now I will have a full entertainment system in one package. Gotta love the iMac for being an AIO, it satisfies all purposes in one box.
I know that. I was just giving the reason why I like the 20 over the 24 and why I dont have buyers remorse.....thats all.
I agree. I have had a 20" iMac since the Rev. B G5 (then Rev. C, now 2.16 Intel). Love the form factor and think it is the perfect size. Before buying the 2.16 Intel 20" last week, I bought a 24" at closeout price. My wife and I both felt like it was so dang big! Not to mention too bright, even with brightness turned all the way down.

Umm, you just put down a forum member for a remark related to the discussion and then proceed to brag about your new iMac which has nothing to do with the discussion. Hmmm...
