I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro both running Mojave where several of my CD albums have been uploaded using an Apple USB Superdrive.
I'm running Mojave so that I can keep my copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended that I use often.

I just bought an iPhone 15 and decided I finally have a phone with enough memory to download some of my music. Got my cable and connected the iPhone to the iMac with iTunes open. The iPhone should show as connected at top left but it does not. Nor does it show as connected anywhere in Finder.

Apple says if I can't update the OS from Mojave then I need to download my music to a Time Machine.but I don't have that.

Has anyone ever managed to transfer Music somehow when iTunes doesn't show the iPhone connection? This seems to be the only way that Apple gets it to sync.

An update is required to connect to iPhone https://support.apple.com/102671

If you were not presented with that window, you can manually start the update by opening /Library/Apple/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/Resources/MobileDeviceUpdater.app

If that doesn’t work, download, install and reboot:

Thank you so much for your response. :)

Yes I was given the Software update window straight away but I had concerns about whether it would update the OS and Apple told me that I would need to update the OS from Mojave before I could connect my iPhone. They also said I would only be able to download music using iTunes.

However, I tried it all again and was then brave enough to press update and all it did was to add a smallish file for the iPhone so I've now managed to connect the iPhone and not only sync my music but am able to do everything else by connecting my iPhone.

I can't believe Apple gave me the wrong answer but am so pleased and relieved that you were able to fix this problem I've had for days. Thank you for being brilliant. :)

I even bought AirPods at a discount during the Amazon Prime days and have only been able to use them with my Audible books. Now I actually have music on my phone. Yay. Happy Happy days!
